Scotiabank's Cards Engineering team is dedicated to building and supporting best-in-class, end-to-end solutions that power Scotiabank's financial products and services. The team delivers robust backend and API capabilities that enable seamless, secure, and scalable customer experiences across the Cards ecosystem.



The Engineering Lead is a key driver of success for the Cards Global Technology Products, responsible for leading the execution and delivery of strategic initiatives. This role champions engineering excellence, fosters innovation, and ensures the resilience and scalability of card systems. As a technical leader, the Engineering Lead empowers a cross-functional team to deliver high-quality Card products and customer-centric experiences through agile methodologies. They cultivate a high-performing, inclusive, and collaborative team culture, while promoting continuous learning and improvement.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:



Lead the planning, discovery, execution, and continuous improvement of strategic technology initiatives aligned with business objectives. Oversee the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) for card systems, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of features and enhancements. Partner closely with business and Product Owners to align on requirements and priorities, delivering technical solutions that support strategic business outcomes. Collaborate closely with product, design, and business stakeholders to deliver innovative, customer-focused solutions. Ensure systems are designed for scalability, reliability, and performance. Identify risks and dependencies and lead cross-functional collaboration to develop mitigation strategies. Champion and implement engineering best practices, including code quality, automation, and DevOps principles. Manage and mentor a high-performing team of Software Engineers, Technical Leads, QA Testers, and Business Systems Analysts. Foster effective communication and alignment across teams and stakeholders. Promote and enforce agile delivery practices, ensuring iterative and adaptive development. Own team forecasting and ensure delivery commitments are met on time and within budget. Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in hiring, team development, and leadership. Ensure all card systems comply with regulatory, security, and internal policy standards.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:



7+ years' experience leading software engineering teams in a complex, fast-paced environment--ideally within financial services. Excellent leadership, people management and relationship building skills, with a track record of mentoring and developing high-performing engineering teams. Strong technical background in backend development, APIs, distributed systems, and cloud-native architectures. Deep understanding of agile delivery methodologies and experience driving agile transformation or maturity within teams. Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across technical and non-technical audiences. Proven ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to semi-technical audiences. Experience managing budgets, forecasts, and delivery roadmaps, ensuring alignment with business priorities. Flexibility to adapt to new and evolving environments and a demonstrated willingness and aptitude for picking new things up quickly. Curious mindset, love for innovation and foster collaboration. Enthusiastic and passionate about customer experiences, innovation and delivering software. A recognized degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Math or related discipline Knowledge on Credit Cards customer journey and processing is an asset
