This position is classified as a Hybrid position, meaning the successful candidate will work at our Markham and/or Oshawa office three (3) days per week.The Controls Systems Engineer is an Individual contributor with recognized expertise responsible for tasks and work you\'re doing throughout the entire vehicle development lifecycle including requirements definition, systems design and implementation, testing, and problem resolution.The Role:The successful candidates will join an Agile team of approximately 8 members, responsible for developing Propulsion Thermal Management systems for all GM battery electric vehicles produced globally! Our Scrum teams work in an Agile framework and are responsible for Software Requirements, Software Development, Testing and Verification. The primary role of the successful candidates will be developing software and controls algorithms to achieve the optimal thermal management performance of our vehicles. Our team is collaborative, has a strong Agile culture, and will afford you the opportunity to work as part of a fun group whose product spans the entire GM portfolio!What You\'ll Do:Work as part of an Agile team that develops embedded automotive control systems. Your responsibilities will include:Provide lean-agile leadership for controls and software architecture by guiding design of large and complex software implementationsInterface with Controls & Software Architects to understand and implement Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) requirements and facilitate the support of the migration to hand code and designs into your scrum teamProvide leadership and technical mentorship to junior developers, and serve as a reviewer of their designsWorking together with Product Owners, Scrum Leaders, Testers, and other developers, using methods like Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) and Test-Driven Development (TDD), create and implement Features for GM\xe2\x80\x99s next generation of EV vehiclesYou\xe2\x80\x99ll be required to create and integrate software in either MATLAB Simulink models, adhering to modeling / software / autocoding best practices, or hand-coded C, with some flexibility to choose implementation methodsCreate or modify Unit test cases and Multicomponent test cases to ensure thorough software testing, and execute model/code equivalences testingExplore and understand new thermal systems and requirements to enable controls and software developmentLeverage GM\xe2\x80\x99s virtual systems to verify and validate systems behaviours and performanceParticipate in the Agile Team and Agile ceremonies as requiredYour Skills & Abilities:Experience with writing and debugging C code and MATLAB Simulink/Stateflow and Rational RhapsodyMinimum 5-7 years of embedded software development experiencePrior working experience with GM or other automotive software standards, test procedures and build processesExperience with software configuration management processes and tools (e.g. Git Ecosystem) preferredDevelopment / testing experience on SIL/HIL or other virtual environmentsGood oral and written communication skills, and high level of interpersonal skills to work effectively in a geographically dispersed teamAbility to manage time and meet deliverable timing is criticalBachelor\'s degree in computer science, Mechatronics, Software, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent experiencePreferred Skills and Experience:\xe2\x80\x8bExperience to Behavior Driven Development and Test-Driven DevelopmentKnowledgeable with software configuration management processes and tools (e.g. Git Ecosystem, Jira)Knowledgeable in Thermal Management control algorithm designs and diagnostic strategyPrior experience working in Agile / Scrum / SAFe is an assetAbout GMOur vision is a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion and we embrace the responsibility to lead the change that will make our world better, safer and more equitable for all.Why Join UsWe aspire to be the most inclusive company in the world.
