Tasks

Prepare engineering designs and drawings Read blueprints to determine work requirements Develop and prepare design sketches Write technical reports Write specifications Complete documentation packages and drawing sets Examine drawings for conformity and errors Consult with client, engineers or production specialists to establish product requirements Work with customers, architects and engineers regarding plans and specifications Prepare design concepts, sketches or models for approval Operate CADD and other computer software systems Develop designs taking into consideration landscape features, buildings, climate, future usage and other aspects Test data models and database management systems Create two-dimensional (2-D) drawings with computer-aided design (CAD) Create three-dimensional (3-D) models with computer-aided design (CAD) Conduct research relating to climate, environmental conditions, urban development and population in geographical regions
