Engineering Cylinder Designer
at our
Milton, ON
facility reporting to the Division Engineering Manager. The
Engineering Cylinder Designer
is responsible for developing concepts and designing cylinders that creates the solution the customer requires.
Responsibilities
Design cylinders to meet the demands of customer requirements
Develop concepts with customers to final delivery of a solution
Provide quotation, testing and troubleshooting support
Actively contribute to Team Improvement / Gemba activities
Essential Duties:
Analyses, researches, and designs cylinders to meet customer needs.
Creates designs by analyzing product or equipment specifications, performance requirements, and existing manufacturing capabilities. Performs moderately complex design, fabrication, modification, and evaluation of cylinders by applying engineering principals and established analytical tools. May develop detailed designs by using sketches and descriptive transfer functions provided by others.
Determines feasibility of designing cylinders or modifying existing cylinder designs considering technical and economic factors, available resources, time constraints, and company planning, by performing detailed trade studies, applying analytical methods, and creating solutions which are defined and can be fully implemented.
Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, product replacement, strength-weight efficiency, contractual specification requirements, cost-defining recommendations, and change proposals.
Prepares or directs preparation of cylinders, detailed drawings, assembly drawings, and schematics, interpreting customer and functional requirements, or by using computer-aided design tools and following industry and/or military drawing standards. Develops data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, notes, and documentation in response to customer proposal requests.
Reviews drawings and layouts to ensure clarity, completeness, form, fit, function, and conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and improvements.
Conducts analyses and/or tests pertaining to the development of new designs, methods, materials or processes and completes required documentation by applying engineering principles and company standards, and generating reports, procedures, or change proposals.
Communicates with customers on Parker product capabilities and to clarify customers' technical requirements.
Recommends changes to refine and enhance cylinders and applications by applying continuous improvement principles and techniques.
Consistently applies established engineering practices, standards, and documentation methods.
Shares specialized knowledge with others. Assists in mentoring new employees. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Work assignments may include cross-functional or project team responsibilities (e.g. continuous improvement).
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or an appropriate related engineering discipline
Minimum of 5 years relevant design and application experience
CET, P.Eng. or Certified Fluid Power Hydraulic Specialist an asset
Skills:
Must have demonstrated involvement in design development
Must be familiar with database and spreadsheet applications such as MS Office
Demonstrate mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic knowledge
Must have exceptional organizational, written and verbal communications skills
Must have exceptional customer service skill to understand unmet needs and provide solutions
