Main Purpose & Function
The Engineering Assistant IV is part of the Pump Station Group within the Sewer & Drainage Design Branch. The Pump Station Group is responsible for capital planning, replacement, and rehabilitation of the City's pump stations, working closely with Sewer Operations, which manages day-to-day operation and maintenance.
This position provides technical, analytical, and administrative support to the Pump Stations & Forcemains Program, applying best practices in design, maintenance, project delivery, and construction management. The Engineering Assistant IV also collaborates with Sewer Operations on performance assessment, asset management, and system investigation reviews to ensure reliable and efficient pump station operations.
The position reports to the Civil Engineer II (Senior Pump Station Planning Engineer) and works under the overall direction of the Pump Station Senior Technical Manager, alongside Civil Engineers and Engineering Assistant.
The role also involves frequent collaboration with Sewer Operations staff, including Superintendents, the Operations Plant Supervisor, pump mechanics, and electricians. In addition, this position may require collaboration with staff from other Engineering Services branches (Integrated Sewers & Drainage Planning, Neighbourhood Energy Utility, DMP, PDB), external consultants, contractors, utility companies (BC Hydro, Fortis, Telus), and Metro Vancouver.
