About the role

As an experienced engineer, you will be able to lead by demonstrating engineering curiosity in customer/internal stakeholder requirements, creating work estimates, proposing improvements, conducting risk analysis and creating analysis and reviews to optimize solutions prior to design implementation. Additionally, you may be leading small teams of peer engineers, mentoring on best practices and following industry developments in the areas of CFD/FEA.

Technical tasks:

  • Mechanical design - Produce requirements-driven modeled analyses/ solutions to be productized for customer use environments
  • Physical analysis - Create FEA simulations based on requirements. Optimize structural design margins with FEA tools to ensure solutions are suitable for use, flexible and practical for manufacture
  • Thermal design - Create CFD simulations based on requirements. Optimize mechanical designs considering thermal constraints for cabinet/wall-mounted equipment in wide ranging environments
  • Participate in RF design - Design and simulate systems in accordance with Military Standards considering conducted/radiated emissions and susceptibility
  • Test planning - based on requirements develop verification plans to evaluate lifecycle performance of equipment/systems
  • Peer reviewing - Ensure work products effectively meet requirements, conform to standards and eliminate defects earlier in the design cycle
  • Requirements reviews- Conduct reviews of internal customer/stakeholder requirements ensuring they are objective and have a clearly defined achievement metric
  • Design specification authoring - Complete specifications detailing design rationale employed to effectively meet requirements
  • Objective evidence - maintain simulation database to support design sell-off and support future reuse
  • Risk analysis - Raise and assess risks/opportunities that may be realized during the development lifecycle
Responsibilities:
  • Customer focus: Work to meet the needs of internal/external customers to deliver on requirements with analyses evidence. Seek clarity and flow down of priorities against timelines. Identify risk, likelihood and impacts to progress. Socialize/create mitigation strategies.
  • Operational Excellence: Lead analysis estimates, studies, troubleshooting and reviews. Document comments to ensure stakeholders/customers are provided with concise results to support effective/timely decision making
  • Continuous Improvement: Test opportunities to improve simulation tools development/options and analysis processes. Socialize analysis improvement initiatives for stakeholder feedback and implementation.
  • Measuring/Tracking Progress: Mentor junior staff on tools use/best practices and estimates of work progress for tracking.
Adaptive Leadership: React to change by seeking, analyzing, testing and implementing solution alternatives collected by active team participation. Build individual and collective team credibility with a rigorous, qualitative and consistent delivery of output. Leadership style is consistently transactional but will take a broader business perspective when making decisions.

What you bring to the role

Qualifications:
Bachelor\'s degree in Engineering or the Physical Sciences from an accredited college or university or its equivalent and a minimum of five (5) years relevant work experience or a Master\'s degree and three (3) years\' experience or in an entry level position with a PhD in a technical or scientific field.

Experience:
  • High level of proficiency in various analyses numerical methods and commercial analysis tools for finite mesh analyses and fluid dynamics
  • Mechanical design experience with Solidworks, and or CREO
  • Must include experience with Solidworks Simulation and/or Ansys Simulation
  • May include experience in LS Dyna, Siemens Flotherm, Ansys Icepak
  • Working capabilities in currently available meshing techniques/tools and optimization methods
  • Experience in design to standards for mechanical shock, vibration, humidity/dust ingress
  • Experience in design to Radio Frequency (RF) (desired) and thermal standards (required)
  • Experience in design for manufacture/assembly/test and root cause analysis
  • Ability to understand configuration/change management principles and their application in the product development life cycle
  • Experience with design validation throughout the planning, development and maintenance stages of product development cycle
  • Clear understanding and ability to participate in the work product reviews System Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR)
  • Experience with Military Standard (MIL-STD) 810, MIL-STD 461/464, MIL-STD 901/167, Lloyd\'s Register and equivalent International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite
Additional skills desired for the role
  • Cable/interconnect design and specification experience
  • Design for Manufacture (DFM) or Design of Excellence (DFX), Earned Value, Design for Cost, ECN\'s or Engineering Change Orders (ECO)
  • Experience in LS Dyna, Siemens Flotherm, Ansys Icepak
  • Windchill PLM or other Product Life Cycle Management (PLM systems)
  • Component engineering processes/tools to address obsolescence proactively during design
  • Resourceful/agreeable/extrovert to enable strong vendor liaison/customer communications
  • Production and results-oriented self-starter.
