About Us
Building and maintaining our provincial highway infrastructure is no small job.
The Department of Public Works supports Nova Scotia's 23,000 kilometers of roads and highways and 4,100 bridges. Our Highway Programs construction division, Northern District, has a challenging and exciting opportunity available for a clerical Engineering Aide.
This is an opportunity to work alongside our professional team of engineers, surveyors, clerical and site staff who administer all phases of contracted construction work for highway and bridge improvements.
About Our Opportunity
The Construction Manager Engineering Aide (CMEA) provides administrative and financial process support to the Construction Manager and construction staff in Cumberland, Colchester, and Pictou Area Offices, ensuring effective administration and accountability of the annual Highway Improvement Plan. The CMEA also works closely with clerical staff from the tendering and financial divisions of Public Works, and financial staff from the Department of Finance, to process payments and contract documents in accordance with provincial government policies and contract requirements.
Primary Accountabilities
The CMEA supports the organization and daily operations of the District construction office by carrying out administrative and financial process requirements and maintaining contract documents in compliance with applicable policies and procedures. Key responsibilities include compiling, reviewing, verifying, processing and filing documents, coordinating required approvals, processing invoices and contract payments, journal vouchers, cheque requisitions, procurement processes, and other related tasks. The role involves extensive use of SAP S/4Hana (various modules) and similar systems for project organization and cost tracking, queries and analysis, reporting, procurement, payroll, and financial processing.
The CMEA monitors project and administrative cost centres, ensuring costs are allocated and accrued appropriately, facilitates adjustments and recommends process improvements when required. They coordinate and track the flow of correspondence between staff, offices, and contractors, and help to investigate and resolve issues that arise. The position also assists with onboarding new employees and provides training and technical/process support to other Engineering Aides, assisting them with payroll processing and contract administration functions when required.
