Our client, one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada, has an immediate need for an Engineer for Stations Equipment Support. This is a contract position for one (1) year located in Burnaby, British Columbia. Chances of extension are high for the right candidate.

Description

The Engineer in this role will provide support for the increasing work load in capital project, emergency replacement and restoration work, asset management strategic OMA work programs and Owners Engineer review work to support their replacement programs This role requires experience with the design of electrical utility substations with operating voltages from 12kV to 500kV and demonstrated experience working with utility design solutions a in an electric utility environment.

Accountabilities

  • Duties include:
  • 1) Review system requirements and select suitable equipment.
  • 2) Conduct site visits and complete site reports.
  • 4) Complete material requests for new equipment.
  • 5) Complete drawings reviews for new equipment.
  • 6) Provide engineering support during install work.
  • 7) Review test results from pre and post testing work.
  • 8) Review field delegation report to check work is done satisfactory.
  • 9) Signing off on TRCS for safe energization.
  • 10) Outline any deficiencies.
  • 11) Share information amongst team in particular any lessons learned.
  • Develop safe engineering solutions by using initiative and judgement to perform tasks including developing designs, analyzing and resolving problems, and interpreting engineering specifications on medium complexity and scope assignments for projects and operations.
  • Assist project or operations management to meet safety, cost, quality, and time objectives by proposing changes in plans and estimated costs, recommending payment for work completed by contractors, preparing progress reports, coordinating work schedules and other similar tasks.
  • Resolve highly technical and unusual design and field engineering problems by conducting independent studies and analysis, exercising independent judgment in selecting and interpreting information, recommending safe engineering designs to support successful operations and/or project completion at .
  • Participate in engineering practice by conducting independent studies and analysis, contributing to the development of technical standards, exercising judgment in selecting and interpreting information, recommending safe engineering designs, and making decisions related to methods and designs as well as providing guidance and advice to other engineering professionals to develop future capability
Required
  • 8 years of experience and knowledge in, air insulated, medium voltage (2.4kV to 69kV) substation switchgear and reactive equipment.
  • Must have experience in medium and high voltage equipment - operating voltages from 12kV to 500kV
  • Experience in project management including estimating, cost control and project administration
  • P.Eng. and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired
  • Bachelor\'s degree in electrical engineering, or a related engineering field
  • Valid Driver\'s license

  • Power system planning experience an asset
  • Experience in one or both of the reactive or switchgear equipment areas is required. Key aspects of the reactive equipment area include:
  • series capacitor stations
  • STATCOMS and power transformers
  • shunt reactors
  • instrument transformers
  • Key aspects of the switchgear equipment area include:
  • HV circuit breakers up to 550kV
  • HV & MV GIS
  • metal clad switchgear
  • circuit switchers
  • disconnect switches
  • fused cutouts
  • station service switchgear
  • station surge arresters
  • Additional Skills
  • Ability to provide technical directions to junior engineers
  • Ability to manage design tasks including scope, schedule and cost
  • Ability to find engineering solutions that add value and to reach consensus
  • Ability to communicate efficiently including verbal and technical writing in the English language, analytical, interpersonal communications and presentation skills
Additional Information
  • Candidates need to be in the lower mainland as they will be working a Hybrid schedule of 2 days in the office
  • Every contractor must supply their own Windows 10 or 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
  • Every contractor must supply their own \xe2\x80\x9cSmart Phone\xe2\x80\x9d. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
