Engineer In Training Mechanical/building Energy Performance

Job Description

We are currently seeking a

Mechanical EIT

to join our

Building Energy Performance

team at our

Burnaby, BC

location. The ideal candidate will have

1 to 3 years of mechanical engineering experience

specializing in building mechanical systems,

including HVAC systems for residential and commercial buildings

, and be familiar with

local HVAC design and installation practices

. The start date for this position is

February 2026

.

Key Responsibilities:



Assist with full cycle management of projects from project initiation to post-construction. Prepare design documents such as drawings, specifications, and other relevant technical documents from concept, client review, tender, permit application, and construction for commercial, recreational, municipal, industrial and residential buildings. Travel to project locations as needed, usually for a half-day or full-day, to collect data, monitor construction progress, or attend design and coordination meetings. Some out-of-town travel may be necessary. Prepare mechanical condition and energy assessment reports. ASHRAE Level 2 energy assessment experience is an asset. Use building mechanical systems and construction techniques to come up with solutions to potential design or on-site issues. Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers, and other specialty consultants. Complete site reviews/field investigation. Coordinate and run meetings internally and externally. Assist with interpreting and implementing applicable codes and regulations. Develop/review and approve budgets and cash flows. Develop/review shop drawings. Carry out contract administration duties. Evaluate the quality of technical design and support activities which assure a high level of technological quality throughout the firm.

About You:



Skills and Qualifications



Registered or eligible to register as an EIT with EGBC Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent schooling/ experience 1-3 years' experience in a similar role Strong technical writing skills and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills Excellent attention to detail and strong work ethic Ability to engage in creative and critical solutions independently and in a team environment Work with the team to meet the project budget and schedule Technically proficient in Bluebeam Revu, Autodesk CADD/Revit, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Project Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and adapt to shifting priorities Relevant building, mechanical and construction industry-related experience Strong knowledge of building codes, ASHRAE 90.1, NEBC, and relevant standards Receive and offer constructive criticism and communicate professionally Scale process, design and effort as required by various roles on projects Ability to travel Ability to work at heights Valid Driver's License
