Job Description


The Opportunity:Our client, A Canadian producer of driveline steering and suspension parts is looking for lead engineer to join their teams. Reporting directly to the Manager, Product Development, As an Engineer , Control Arms & Chassis, you will be responsible for the design, engineering, and development of the Control Arm/Chassis product line. This role involves making technical recommendations, identifying key improvements, and analyzing failure modes of parts under warranty. You will collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to enhance product performance and innovation.What You'll Be Doing:

  • Lead the ongoing development of NPIs for the control arm/chassis product line.
  • Develop detailed specifications, drawings, testing, and validation plans for control arm/chassis products.
  • Investigate and develop component specifications, standards, and best practices.
  • Assess new technologies/designs and make recommendations based on scientific principles and test data.
  • Review design changes to determine impact on functional performance and compliance with internal engineering standards.
  • Execute implementation of new designs and/or standards with manufacturers.
  • Consult and evaluate suppliers on the manufacturing processes used in the production of control arm, chassis, and relevant components.
  • Investigate new approaches to differentiate products internally and externally.
  • Perform and manage benchmarking against competitors for the control arm/chassis product line.
  • Prepare and update DFMEA, DVP, and engineering standards.
  • Assess and onboard new manufacturers to engineering standards and best practices.
  • Conduct root cause analysis to enhance current products.
  • Re-evaluate products and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Review and compile testing data to quantify design improvements.
  • Onboard and train new team members.
  • Review identified errors and provide guidance to the team.
  • Document and upgrade current engineering specifications and standards.
  • Contribute to engineering standards and process improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with peers on research projects, providing guidance and support
What You'll Need to Be Successful:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Applied Science.
  • 5-7+ years of experience in an automotive engineering environment specializing in suspension component design & manufacturing.
  • Proven experience in leading and driving automotive component development programs.
  • Extensive knowledge in Autodesk Mechanical, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar 2D & 3D CAD systems.
  • Experience in developing automotive components using sheet metal, weldments, casting, and forging manufacturing processes.
  • Experience in the development of spherical joint components and assemblies.
  • Experience and knowledge in designing and developing rubber automotive components and rubber injection molding manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of automotive suspension component SAE testing standards.
  • Knowledge of GD&T as per ASME Y14.5.
  • Experience in developing product DFMEAs & DVP&Rs.
  • Knowledge of mechanical testing (Hardness, Metallurgy, Tensile).
  • Proven experience with APQP.
  • Experience in project management and handling multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, direct, and control projects.
  • Experience in evaluating and auditing suppliers is an asset.
  • Ability to interpret and create technical drawings.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Proven ability to build effective business relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
