POSITION OVERVIEW

Accountable for providing design, deployment and support of the core transport and IP technologies, systems and related network equipment. Ensures deployment of the Core Transport and IP Network in a cost effective and timely manner to meet customer needs for telecommunication services. Provides technical solutions and consulting services for other Network related projects that will result in leading technological changes within SaskTel in this area of technology.

LEADERSHIP ACCOUNTABILITIES

People * Leads, directs and manages staff to ensure the effective use of HR resources. Maximizes performance by selecting (hire external or promote from within), developing, mentoring and sustaining a high level of expertise among staff. Organize and direct work including prioritizing assignments, establishing objectives, providing regular performance feedback, conducting year end performance appraisals and taking necessary corrective action as may be required. Assists in staff career planning, establishes development and succession plans and ensures relevant HR procedures and policies are followed (provisions of the collective agreement, performance appraisals, discipline, grievance, etc). Accountable for provisioning and managing contracted resources as may be required.

  • Accountable for promoting a productive and positive environment for staff that encourages innovation, teamwork, initiative and models corporate values. Motivates staff by assigning challenging work, planning and managing internal communications and awareness of corporate direction, mission, plans and activities.
  • Ensures all safety, health, environmental and code of conduct policies, programs and standards are understood and complied with at all times.
  • Proactively identify and action opportunities to increase customer satisfaction (internal and external customers).
Financial * Ensure sound financial control within area of responsibility by developing annual operating and capital budgets, monitoring performance to budget and taking action as appropriate. Develops, negotiates and implements contracts for acquisition of goods & services related to area of responsibility.

Innovation * Accountable to research, develop, define and implement innovative long and short term plans, policies and objectives. Provides expertise to senior management providing education, studies and consulting on opportunities that will impact business strategy. Ensures alignment and integration with the corporate strategic plan and develops plan and operational metrics, including approaches for demonstrating business value.
  • Accountable to proactively identify and action opportunities to improve revenue and growth initiatives, decrease costs, increase customer service levels and increase employee engagement.
  • Accountable to develop opportunities to spark innovation in technology or product service delivery or process improvements.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Design and successfully coordinate the deployment of SaskTel\xe2\x80\x99s legacy Core Transport and IP network elements and software upgrades in accordance with SaskTel network plan.
  • Ensure that large, complex network projects are implemented and completed within time and budget constraints by utilizing project control methods.
  • Maintains current knowledge of technical advancements to ensure that the current network is sufficiently engineered and provisioned to adequate capacity in order to meet forecasted customer requirements.
  • Accountable for a thorough end to end understanding of SaskTel\xe2\x80\x99s legacy Core Transport and IP network to be able to predict the impact of any changes to both the network and SaskTel\xe2\x80\x99s Core Transport and IP services as a result of new features, hardware or software additions.
  • Contribute to cost effective use of corporate financial resources through the planning, submission, and monitoring of major corporate network project expenditures.
  • Ensure SaskTel customers receive quality service by providing technical advice and assistance to peers and other departments.
  • Provides professional and technical consulting expertise to Network Planning, Core Network Engineering, and Network Support.
  • Provide professional and technical expertise and mentorship to Core Network Engineering Assistants.
  • Define technical requirements for vendor selection. Consult with and manage vendor and partner relationships.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • University Degree in Electrical, Computer, Electronics or System Engineering and be qualified to register as a Professional Engineer.
  • Demonstrated and thorough knowledge of SaskTel\xe2\x80\x99s legacy and succession Core transport and IP technologies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of design and implementation of technology concepts, developments, and issues.
  • Ability to function in ambiguous situations, with particular emphasis on design, deployment, operation and integration of emerging technologies.
  • Proven and demonstrated Project Management skills and processes, as outlined in SaskTel\xe2\x80\x99s Corporate Project Management Office.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and apply them for effective solution of business problems.
  • Excellent written and oral communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a valid driver\'s licence.
