Engadget is hiring a Senior Editor to run the site on weekends and contribute news stories and deals posts three weekdays a week. The ideal candidate is conversant in consumer tech and is comfortable covering breaking news in a fast-paced environment. You dont need to be a subject-matter expert in everything we cover, but a broad understanding of our bread-and-butter beats is a definite plus. Because youll be working on breaking news, and will have minimal supervision two days a week, having solid news judgment and being able to quickly turn around clean copy are all paramount.

Responsibilities:

Look after the site on weekends. This entails selecting stories, writing some up yourself, and occasionally scheduling articles written by other contributors.

Update the homepage DL on your weekend shift.

Write news stories and deal posts three weekdays each week. (The exact schedule is negotiable.)

Attend embargoed news briefings as needed.

Help cover tradeshows as needed. This may include in-person and/or online-only events.

We may also assign you longer-form pieces such as product reviews and buying guides.

Requirements:

A familiarity with and sincere interest in consumer technology.

Strong news judgment.

Experience working in a newsroom, preferably covering consumer technology, science, autos or another related field.

Must be comfortable covering fast-moving breaking news stories.

Willingness to work a regular weekend shift.

Works well with others and is receptive to feedback.

Preferred:

Basic photography and photo-editing skills in the event we assign you the occasional product review.
