DNV \xe2\x80\x93 Energy\xe2\x80\x99s Energy Advisory group has an exciting opportunity for an Energy Market Analyst, in its Power System Advisory (PSA) Department. DNV Energy\xe2\x80\x99s PSA team provides creative, cost effective and practical solutions to stakeholders in the power generation, transmission, and distribution systems. The Energy Market Analyst must demonstrate vision and drive and be passionate about contributing to the growth and evolution of the PSA business in North America. The ideal candidate will be aware of market opportunities where we can differentiate and innovate, and they will manage commercial projects, delivering technical insight and provide customers with excellent customer service.

This position will ideally be based out of our Toronto (CA) office.

What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Do

  • Wholesale market analysis involving energy markets across the US (congestion & curtailment, basis, DA/RT, forward heat rates and spark spreads, ancillary services, natural gas, and correlations) assist with development of market valuation models
  • Translate wholesale market changes into strategic opportunities
  • Generate reports and market insight for clients
  • Evaluate the value and impact of various energy assets such as storage, wind, solar and distributed generation
  • Actively attend (in person/remote) industry stakeholder meetings and stay up to date with assigned market changes in terms of developments and policy changes
  • Contribute to the team\xe2\x80\x99s research and innovation activities supporting development of new techniques and/or analytical tools to enhance efficiency and/or capability improvements
  • Adhere to department\xe2\x80\x99s project quality and timeliness procedures
  • Assist in preparing responses to Statement of Qualifications (SOQ\xe2\x80\x99s), Request for Proposals (RFP\xe2\x80\x99s) for new tenders/bids/opportunities
Position Qualifications

What is Required
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or in a related field of study
  • Minimum two (2) years of direct work experience in energy production cost modeling or economic dispatch modeling using PLEXOS, PROMOD, UPLAN or Encompass
  • Knowledge of North American RTO/ISO markets and their planning practices
  • Familiarization with regional power and gas market construct for managing risk, including familiarity with Locational Marginal Prices (LMP), basis and congestion risk, renewable curtailment etc.
  • Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in a high-paced team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills

What is Preferred
  • Graduate level degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on Power Systems
  • In-depth financial or economic knowledge/experience and understanding of the mechanics of the energy market (wholesale energy markets), ability to quantify trends impacting the industry and provide information that can aid commercial decisions
  • Knowledge of Eastern and/or Western grid interconnection and corresponding planning practices including resource integration studies
  • Demonstrable hands-on experience with power system analysis software packages including TARA, PSS/E and/or Powerworld
  • Working knowledge of automation scripts such as Python for development of automation modules
