Energy Efficiency Specialist

Job Description

Job Purpose



The Energy Efficiency Specialist plays a critical role in supporting clients to meet their business sustainability goals by assessing their operational needs and leading the development of grant applications and energy efficiency projects. This position involves advising clients on energy audits, Save on Energy programs and related initiatives, with the goal of driving continuous improvement and cost-effect environmental practices.

Duties and Responsibilities



Financial



? Coordinate quotes and budgets to ensure alignment with grant and program requirements

? Monitor client activity volumes to ensure business and departmental targets are achieved.

? Track client progress to confirm ongoing alignment with grant milestones and deliverables

Client Support & Project Execution



? Serve as a primary contact for client inquiries related to farm business operations and energy planning

? Collect required documentation and manage the preparation and submission of grant proposals

? Manage the daily execution of approved energy efficiency projects

Program Strategy & Coordination



? Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of funding opportunities, application deadlines and supporting data

? Evaluate the eligibility of client projects for various levels of funding programs

? Guide clients through available programs, associated responsibilities, and regulatory requirements

? Foster long-term relationships with clients through professional communication and proactive service

Technical Knowledge & Advisory



? Stay current on funding program rules, eligibility requirements, and reporting standards

? Conduct energy & environmental assessments and provide advice on the sustainability aspects of farm planning

? Perform custom calculations to estimate energy savings and ROI based on research and audit data

? Interpret and align project planning with current and anticipated client goals

Information & Systems Management



? Support the claims department in maintaining project tracking tools & databases

? Ensure project management software is kept up to date and reflects changes in program requirements and workflows

Qualifications



Education



? Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agriculture, Sustainable Energy, or Energy Systems Engineering

? Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) designation preferred

Experience & Skills



? 2-3 years' of relevant experience in the agricultural or agri-business sector

? Proven experience with agricultural energy calculations and assessments

? Proficient with MSOffice (Word, Excel, Outlook), Asana, RETscreen

? Familiarity with IESO & Save On Energy initiatives

? Experience conducting engineering-related calculations and assessments

? Knowledge of LEED and Energy Star standards is considered an asset

Working Conditions



? Office-based work with occasional outdoor site visits in varying weather conditions (extreme heat & cold, rain, snow, and wind)

? Travel to client locations may be required. Expected travel 5-10%

Physical Requirements



? Ability to perform tasks while standing, sitting, and/or walking

? Requires clear communication through speech, vision, and hearing

? Use of hands for simple grasping and fine motor tasks

? Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching

? Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull light weights up to 25 pounds

? May involve working in environments with exposure to chemicals, fertilizers and dust

? Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required in certain field environments
