The Energy Analyst supports HIDIs design and analytical activities through specialized knowledge in hourly energy modeling, sustainable design, and economic analysis. Assist the quality assurance process to ensure projects are achieving the owners requirements.
Responsibilities
Business Development

• Work to develop strong, ongoing relationships with clients

• Keep Group Leader apprised of activities
• Lead by example, following proper procedures
• Participate in training courses and show initiative for professional development
• Provide insightful and enthusiastic assistance to other staff
• Schedule workload appropriately, maximizing productive time
• Work enthusiastically with the Group to accomplish common objectives

• Conduct energy modelling using IES-VE simulation software.
• Comply with company modelling standards.
• Coordinate work with other external disciplines including Architectural and Structural.
• Coordinate work with other internal HIDI teams.
• Review systems at design stage to ensure they are in accordance with OBC, MNECB, ASHRAE and/or other relevant Codes and Standards.
• Provide energy modeling and analysis support for design load calculations for new and existing buildings.
• Utilize performance simulation tools to analyze energy efficiency measures for both new and existing buildings.
• Provide technical analysis and support during the design and construction phases.
• Provide a range of energy efficiency and energy resource planning activities.
• Source and update energy efficiency incentive programs on an ongoing basis.
• Be an active member of the integrated design team.
• Act as a 3rd party reviewer for incentive programs such as LEED, Better Buildings Partnership, etc.
• Answer and direct calls and respond to telephone queries.
• Prepare both internal and external correspondence.

• Opportunity to take on energy audits, retro-commissioning, and new-construction commissioning after several months of successful energy modelling project delivery.

• Engineering Degree
• 1-2 years of experience in the Engineering Consulting industry
• Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD
• Basic understanding of Building Science and Physics
• Basic understanding of Take-off and zoning elements of modelling
• Experience with reading and coordinating Mechanical, Electrical, Structural and Architectural drawings
• Ability to work independently
• Strong interest in sustainable development
• Detail oriented with excellent time management and organizational skills
• Experience with Windows and general computer skills
• Familiar with OBC, MNECB, ASHRAE and other relevant Codes and Standards
• Strong interpersonal communication skills
• Superior problem-solving and analytical skills
• Experience with eQUEST, EE4, Carrier HAP, DOE2.1e/2.2, IESVE, RETScreen software programs
• Fundamental understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, and HVAC equipment
• Working knowledge of energy efficiency incentive programs
• Working knowledge of new green building technologies and processes
