The function of the Employment Support Worker is to assist program participants with employability skills programming and job skills application proficiency.
This is a new position, needing an outgoing individual who is inspirational, a motivator, has strong social skills, the ability to build connections, and understands industry.
- Conduct functional community-based assessments to identify job seeker's skills, interests, learning style(s), social skills, and support needs.
- Assist participants in identifying personal interests which lead to a job of choice in the community.
- Facilitate both on and off the job supports to build on and enhance employment maintenance strengths, including but not limited to:
-developing and applying coping tools, methods to deal with pressures of the workforce; -handling life changes -accepting change as a stepping-stone rather than a stumbling block;
- recognizing conflict, and responsibility for actions and responses;
- priority setting, scheduling use of time;
- job relevant communication skills -body language, vocabulary, written communication tips.
- Conduct referrals and connect participants to other community agencies or programs for supports.
- Keep updated on labour market trends and employment resources.
- Understand the business community and how individuals add value to the workplace. Be prepared to share this when meeting with employers to discuss job opportunities.
- Network with employers to identify job openings.
- Identify and suggest suitable job opportunities.
- Anticipate potential supports and provide or facilitate additional support as needed.
- Maintain detailed records of client interactions and progress.
- Provide statistical and report information as required.
- Other duties relevant to the position may be assigned from time to time.
Expected Qualifications:
- A combination of education and experience in employment service provisions. Post secondary education is desired.
- Applied counselling.
- Ability to build a rapport with a diverse range of participants.
- Demonstrated facilitation and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated planning and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability.
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture -history, practices, protocols, and values.
- Empathy and a genuine interest in helping others succeed.
- Knowledge of community resources.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Proficiency with technology and digital platforms.
- Strong attention to detail and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work independently, with a team, and collaborate with interagency and interdisciplinary approaches.
- Valid Driver's Licence and access to a vehicle.
- Employment is subject to a Criminal Record Information check.

Pay: $23.00-$25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 per week
