Job Summary:



Foundry is removing barriers and increasing access to health and wellness services for young people ages 12-24 and their caregivers through a network of youth-friendly centres across British Columbia and online. By offering integrated social services including work and education support, mental health care, substance use services, primary and sexual health care, and peer support, Foundry makes it easier for young people to find support in their communities. Online resources and first-of-its-kind virtual care further broaden Foundry's reach. The Terrace Foundry center is operated by Terrace and District Community Services Society (TDCSS).

The Foundry Terrace Employment and Education Support Worker works within a multi-disciplinary team, alongside an Employment and Education Specialist, in meeting the needs of youth participants in all aspects of employment, education, and career planning. This person also builds and maintains connections with local employers and educational institutions and promotes Foundry services in the community.

The Foundry Terrace Employment and Education Support Worker works within the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model[1] with to assist youth in removing barriers to employment, developing their ability to be effective in the labor market, assessing their employment skills, interests and career options, supporting their employment seeking needs (i.e. resume, job seeking plans, interview skills etc.), helping to address any educational barriers, goals or needs, and assisting them in making wise career decisions for themselves. These services may take place on a one-to-one basis or in groups.

The Foundry Terrace Employment and Education Support Worker may also consult with other members of the Foundry team including mental health and substance use clinicians, peer supporters and other partners, to provide wrap-around care for youth, while always acknowledging the youth as an autonomous expert in their own experience.

The Employment and Education Support Worker must have excellent interpersonal skills and work from a compassionate, trauma-informed perspective. They must have a thorough understanding of the world of work and up-to-date information about trends that affect the job market. They must have the ability to successfully facilitate a client's journey through the development and implementation of an employment action plan, assist with educational barriers and needs, and support the development of post-secondary plans for clients.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:



Assessment



Interviewing youth participants to obtain employment history, educational background, career interests, and employment goals

Helping to identify barriers to employment and assist clients with such matters as job readiness skills, job search strategies, writing resumes and preparing for job interviews

Administering tests designed to determine the interests, aptitudes and abilities of clients

Assessing needs for assistance such as rehabilitation, financial aid or further training and refer clients to the appropriate services

Providing job search guidance, educational guidance, and career advice

Assuring that participants understand the next steps in receiving services from other community resources identified to support their employment and education goals

Case Management



Ensuring that case management is done within the Foundry Employment and Education Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model

Matching job postings with youth's skills and employment goals

Developing action plans in collaboration with the youth participant and supporting them in the implementation of the plans

Helping youth to access resources needed to meet employment goals (online job banks, assessments, skill building tools) and education goals (schools, colleges, universities, trade schools, apprenticeship programs, grants, bursaries, student loans)

Obtaining participant consent and releases as necessary

Managing youth's information in an accurate, secure, and organized manner which is in accordance with Foundry Terrace, TDCSS, Provincial, and Federal standards

Securing suitable youth employment opportunities, which may include: searching for employment opportunities, advocating with prospective employers, assisting employers and youth with workplace accommodations where needed, and assisting employers and youth with job maintenance

Helping youth create and implement post-secondary education plans, including assisting with financial planning and living arrangements

Data Management



Utilizing all data management systems in accordance with their intended use

Ensuring all data entries are accurate and professional in form and nature

Maintaining all aspects of client privacy and confidentiality in accordance with TDCSS, Foundry, Provincial, and Federal guidelines

Community Engagement



Championing Foundry services in the community, such as at trade shows, in schools, and other forms of community outreach

Developing and maintaining relationships with employers in order to secure job placements for youth

Other Duties



May be required to perform other duties related to either the role of Employment and Education Support Worker or working within the TDCSS Foundry worksite.

Qualifications:



Minimum 2 year post-secondary diploma in a human services field

A thorough understanding of the labor market - local, regional, provincial, and national

A good understanding of educational systems and how to create both continuing education and post-secondary education plans

Professional communication skills - oral, written and electronic

A clean criminal record check

Ability to work a full-time schedule with some flexibility (some evenings, weekends may be required at times)

Additional Skills and Attributes



Ability to establish rapport with people from a wide variety of backgrounds

Sensitivity, experience and a demonstrated understanding of the issues surrounding the employment/re-employment of injured workers or persons with disabilities is important

Comfortable giving presentations and engagement with the public

Understanding various income support mechanisms such as EI and BCEA is helpful as is in-depth knowledge of funding sources for job-seeker interventions such as training or self-employment

Facilitation activities require excellent presentation, organizational and research skills with a proven ability to effectively deliver subject matter to individuals and groups of youth learners from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Proficiency in computer use is essential as is attention to detail for accurate and timely data entry. Proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office and able to learn new software. Preferred: knowledge of employment skills, education systems, aptitudes, interests, and career choices inventories

Access to a personal vehicle with Business Insurance with the ability to transport persons served

Acceptable driver's abstract

Valid BCDL class 5

Shifts:



Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm (may require flexibility in hours to meet client needs)

Wage:



$26.00 - $29.00 on a 4 step grid system
