POSITION DESCRIPTION

In support of the College\xe2\x80\x99s strategic plan to be a key component of social, cultural, and economic development with a commitment to the community\xe2\x80\x99s success, the Employment Consultant provides employment consulting and initiates, develops, secures implements and monitors employment opportunities and training for unemployed, multi-barriered, and culturally diverse individuals. Markets the Employment Services program, recruits both job seekers and employers in the community to help uncover hidden employment leads and to create openings based on the needs of the client group. Is responsible for maintaining all required records, documentation and statistical information for reporting and accountability purposes, releasing funds as per Ministry guidelines. May also participate in related Employment Services programs delivered through Service Canada, the Ministry of Community and Social Affairs, Ontario Works, or other fee for service agencies.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: A minimum of a 3-year diploma or degree in Social Work, Human Resources, or Marketing. A minimum of 3 years of experience in Career Consulting, Job Development, Marketing, Direct Sales, Recruitment and Selection, relevant volunteer experience. Experience developing and securing training and employment opportunities for unemployed, multi-barriered, and culturally diverse individuals. Fluency in both English and French languages is required. Other Required Qualifications:
  • A valid Ontario \xe2\x80\x98G\xe2\x80\x99 driver\xe2\x80\x99s license
  • Proven ability to work supportively to assist people with barriers to employment.
  • Knowledge of community services and range of employment programs locally.
  • Knowledge of marketing strategies and techniques.
  • Bilingualism is required.
  • Excellent proficiency in English and French communication (written/verbal) including excellent presentation and public relations skills is required.
  • Proven negotiation and conflict negotiation skills.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications (Microsoft Suite, Internet).
  • Knowledge of Human Rights, Employment Standards Act, Labour Code, WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Knowledge of local labour market trends and job search methods.
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment.
  • Flexible and creative.
  • Confident and enthusiastic.
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
Physical/Work Environment Essential Requirements: Ability to travel within the Ottawa region to employer job sites to monitor placements or to respond to an on-the-job injury (typically 3 days/week). A valid Ontario \xe2\x80\x98G\xe2\x80\x99 driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and access to a personal vehicle are essential to perform the job. The successful incumbent must have the ability to report to the work location.
