Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Employment Services the incumbent works closely with a team to provide a range of employment services to prepare clients for training, employment and/or employment maintenance. The Employment Consultant is responsible for managing a large caseload while maintaining adequate case files including all required data and documentation.


Duties and Responsibilities

Oversees a large caseload of individuals seeking employment and/or training Performs intake and assessment activities for new and existing clients Develops, implements and monitors client action plans Provides assistance and direction to clients for the development of realistic career and employment goals Assists in the provision of job search techniques training and job readiness assessments Identifies and makes appropriate client referrals to various programs, job vacancies and community services Assesses eligibility and suitability for federal and provincial government funded programs Provides job retention support to previous job seeking clients by providing follow up and interventions necessary to maintaining employment Supports the local employer community by offering referral and placement services Offers information sessions and workshop materials to groups of clients and community partners Maintains accurate case documentation and compiles and reports statistical information Collaborates with other Community Employment Services staff to promote services in the community and provide a seamless continuum of employment services

Qualifications

Completion of a two (2) year college diploma in social services. Specific post-secondary education in Employment/Career Counselling is an asset At least three (3) years of related experience working with clients within Employment or Human Services A sound understanding of employment-related legislation and issues in the field of employment counselling/consulting Strong analytical skills demonstrating a proactive approach to problem solving Effective research and administrative skills and a high level of computer proficiency Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written Excellent organizational skills Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record is required
