Position Title: Employment Advisor

Position Type: Full Time

Reports To: Team Lead \xe2\x80\x93 Program Manager \xe2\x80\x93 Executive Director

Hours: 35 hours per week (occasional evenings and weekends may be required)

Position Summary:

The purpose of this position is to provide job seekers, employers, and community partners with timely access to Employment Ontario services. The Employment Advisor will deliver services in accordance with the Fedcap Canada, Employment Ontario, and Canada Ontario Job Grant Guidelines. Employees will carry out their duties in accordance with the Core Competencies and Areas of Specialization outlined in the Canadian Standards for Career Development Practitioners.

Responsibilities:

Individual performance expectations will be assigned by management and will be subject to change according to the clients\xe2\x80\x99 changing needs, programs/services, individual and team performance, and any other factors related to the fulfillment of contractual agreements.

Case Management:

  • Complete client needs assessment to determine eligibility and suitability for assisted service
  • Complete client registration and intake documents and determine appropriate services based on individual client needs
  • Work with clients to explore, identify, and clarify interests, values, abilities, skills, education, experience, and opportunities for development concerning short and long-term career and employment goals
  • Provide coaching in all aspects of their job search and preparation to support successful employment
  • Provide guidance in the preparation of Second Career Applications and submit a completed application for review and approval
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case notes, collect relevant documentation and enter information into the appropriate database
  • Ensure files and all data complies with Fedcap Canada and Employment Ontario Guidelines
Group Facilitation:
  • Design, develop and facilitate employment-related presentations and workshops on-site or in the community. This will include set-up and tear-down of equipment
  • Keep updated on current trends, policy changes, and other impacts in the field to help dictate possible future training and courses
  • Network and develop partnerships with local agencies by delivering presentations
Organizational Capacity:
  • Initiate self-directed learning and participate in staff training and mentorship opportunities
  • Respect and adhere to the policies and procedures of the Welland Heritage Council and Multicultural Centre
  • Attend meetings and networking opportunities throughout the region to promote all WHCMC programs and services
  • Actively promote the WHCMC by sharing and promoting approved social media posts and email campaigns
  • Assist with organizing, promoting, and hosting special events
Credentials Required

Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in social services, human resources, or related fields is preferred
  • Experience in career counselling, group facilitation, and job development is an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail and exceptional time management skills are required
  • Knowledge of local employment standards, labour market, community agencies, and services are an asset
  • Advanced skills with MS Office, Outlook, digital meeting platforms, and social media
  • Group Facilitation experience, as well as the ability to make external presentations, is an asset
  • Police clearance is required
  • Own vehicle and a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s permit are required
  • Speaking a second language would be an asset
