The Niagara Region serves a diverse population of nearly 450,000 residents spanning across 12 municipalities, providing many vital programs and services. The HR department serves over 4,000 employees across six different unions and one non-union employee group.



As an intern, you will provide expertise and leadership that will help the Corporation reach its goal of supporting and advancing the well-being of individuals, families, and communities.



The Employee Services Intern will work directly with the Employee Services Assistant, providing front-line, real time payroll and Human Resources support. This generalist role is critical in the provision of HR services to our various internal and external stakeholders.



The Employee Services Intern receives requests and inquiries from internal employees, external clients, and the general public, initiating workflow for all HR teams including Payroll/Benefits, Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, Employee Health Services, Organizational Development, and Labour Relations. As the first point of contact for the Human Resources department, the Employee Services Intern must exemplify exceptional customer service and problem-solving skills.



Reporting directly to Manager, Employee Services Operations, the successful candidate will receive firsthand exposure to legislative, collective agreement, and operational processing requirements related to employee movements for new hires, transfers, retirements and terminations, as well as all ESA and non-ESA leaves. The Operations team is also responsible for ensuring compliance with various other governing bodies, including calculating and reporting court-ordered garnishments, pension contributions, and benefit premiums, as well as processing Records of Employment, T4s, and more.



The Employee Services Intern will be exposed to all employee groups, and will be expected to develop a working knowledge of the various collective agreements and apply this knowledge accordingly when handling inquiries.



The successful candidate will acquire extensive experience utilizing our HRIS system (PeopleSoft), workflow system (Incident Monitor), and Microsoft Suite systems (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).



Please note that the successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Basic Criminal Record Check as well as a copy of final transcripts.
