Nature & Scope




Reporting to the Director of People Services, the Employee and Labour Relations Advisor plays a pivotal role in advancing effective people management strategies and cultivating a positive workplace culture. This position provides strategic and practical HR advising, coaching, and consultation to leaders on performance management, change initiatives, and workforce development, The Advisor leads workplace investigations, supports progressive discipline processes, and ensures the accuracy and integrity of HR documentation and data across platforms such as Acuity and ADP. The Advisor offers expert advice on applicable HR policies, applicable legal and regulatory standards, and enhancing people-related capabilities to a wide range of YBC stakeholders including front-line staff and management. Additionally, the Advisor contributes to strategic projects and delivers data-driven insights through comprehensive reporting on workforce trends.

Build strategic, collaborative partnerships with supervisors and managers in fostering and cultivating a supportive workforce culture. Provide coaching and guidance on the interpretation and application of HR policies and practices, including performance management, change management, and job design. Advise YBC staff on wide-ranging people-related matters, including leave management, conflict resolution, benefits, and wellness. Conduct workplace investigations of varying scopes and complexity, ensuring thorough documentation and resolution. Review and submit incident reports to WorkSafe, ensuring accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements. Maintain consistent and timely updates of employee records in systems such as Acuity and ADP, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality. Gather, analyze, and report HR data from relevant sources to inform decision-making and keep the Director of People Services updated on key metrics and trends.

Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is considered an asset. 3-5 years of progressive experience in a Human Resources generalist or advisory role, with a focus on employee and labour relations. Demonstrated experience conducting workplace investigations and managing performance and disciplinary processes. Strong knowledge of HR policies, employment legislation, and best practices in employee relations. Proven ability to coach and support leaders in effective people management Ability to communicate with clarity, tact, nuance, and empathy to a wide range of stakeholders. Proficiency in HRIS systems such as Acuity and ADP, with a strong attention to detail and commitment to data integrity. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills. High level of discretion, professionalism, and ability to handle sensitive information confidentially. Strong analytical skills with the ability to gather, interpret, and report on HR data and workforce trends. Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.
