This position is based on site at the NWR Sturgeon Refinery.

Position Summary




Reporting to the Emergency Response Specialist, the Emergency Response Technician (ERT) is part of an integrated service responsible for delivery of emergency services at the North West Redwater Partnership (NWR) Sturgeon Refinery. Interfacing with various stakeholders, the ERT will develop, and execute plans and services that meet the safety and emergency response commitments of NWR's overall Emergency Services requirements.


The ERT will have a broad work scope, including developing emergency response plans and programs, fire-fighting strategies, medical services, developing, leading and delivery of training to Operation teams. This role will ensure that NWR's Sturgeon Refinery Site is educated on all aspects of emergency response and plans and/or procedures are developed, and competency is demonstrated in the safe execution of emergency services.


The Emergency Response Technician will provide support services in the care, custody and control of Emergency Services, Occupational Health, Medical and any other materials and equipment required to maintain operational efficiency.


This role will initially work an onboarding dayshift schedule transitioning onto a 12-hour, rotating, day/night shift.

Responsibilities:



Ensures emergency response readiness of personnel and fleet; Respond to all Fire, Technical Rescue and Medical emergencies on NWR Refinery Site, surrounding area in support of a mutual aid request for service; Works in a high performing team environment; Audits and checks response equipment including fire, technical rescue, medical and other key systems; Designs and develops Technical Rescue Plans and other preplanning documents; Maintains key site resources including but not limited to: SCBA and SABA systems, and Air monitoring equipment; Maintains competency and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, training opportunities, and participating in scheduled drills; Maintains fire station building, grounds, and related equipment by completing maintenance schedules; Develops and conducts educational and training programs to operations and stakeholders; All other duties as assigned.


Requirements:



Understands, creates and maintains a visible commitment to process and personal safety, as well as the safety of others; adheres to NWR's Core Competencies to drive results and a high performing culture; Registered and in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics as a Primary Care Paramedic or Advanced Care Paramedic with 3+ years' experience in pre-hospital care; BLS - Provider; NFPA 1001 - Level 2; NFPA 1072 - Awareness and Operations; Air Brakes Endorsement; NFPA 1006 - Rope Rescue; Current ITLS certification; Strong knowledge of AER facility and pipeline emergency response requirements; Familiarity with Alberta safety regulations and requirements within an operating hydrocarbon-processing facility in Alberta; familiarity with PPE requirements, safety, and emergency response equipment; Ability to develop, or aid in the development of safety programs, emergency response plans and simulations and development of procedures and training materials; Ability to complete an annual physical fitness evaluation; Understanding of risks and requirements related to the operation of hydrocarbon processing equipment; demonstrated relationship building with internal and external stakeholders; Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to collaborate and assist in training of the operations ERT and lead an emergency scene; Contribute to industry work groups and consult with external agencies: Must be willing to make decisions, in line with execution plans and operations: Thorough understanding of the Incident Command System, ICS 100 & 200 with consideration to those with ICS 300.
