Position Purpose summary:
The Emergency After Hours Worker will work with the Residents of Crossroads and Saskatoon to effectively deliver the Emergency After-Hours program in alignment with the program criteria and guidelines, as stated in the contract. The incumbent will also ensure residents safety while interacting in a positive, supportive manner and provide support of residents and maintain the safety and security of Crossroads and Saskatoon clients.

Key Responsibilities:Follows the program goals and abides by territorial and local Salvation Army policies and procedures.
Effectively and timely communicates to clients regarding their requests and inquires, in person and over the phone, in a respectful, clear and concise manner, while maintaining confidentiality, fairness, and respect.
Actively supervises and supports residents in the facility as required in a lawful, safe and expedient manner.
Coordinates resident care relating to security issues overnight if required
Monitors the activities of the residents and maintain availability for personal and practical support
Effectively communicates with the staff and management on EAH matters through emails, and communication logbook
Displays the Salvation Army values through interactions with clients, residents, EAH partners, staff, professionals, and members of the public.
Maintains the EAH Restriction list up to date and timely communicates with the ministry of Social Services to discuss clients' cases and access to services.
Remains alert and awake at all times throughout all shifts
Assists Residential Workers with program tasks as assigned or needed
Courteously answers phone calls about Emergency After Hours needs and provide support.
Prepares food hampers, keeps an inventory up to date, and informs the kitchen staff when food supplies are getting low.
Fills out all Transient Aid forms for clients with great attention to details, as well as purchase orders.
Complete daily EAH reports to send to the Ministry of Social Services and collaborate with the administrative staff as needed
Develop and document business requirements, process and reports as needed
Develop and document options and recommendations to issues and problems as it relates to EAH and filling out the necessary documents for Social Services
Support key stakeholders in understanding the implications of options and decisions as it relates to Social Services
Requirements for fundingCreate and maintain list of reports required for health and safety compliance purposes.
Support external reporting requests as needed
Participate fully and constructively in staff meetings and service training
As applicable, suggest improvements to management.
Other work-related duties as assigned by Residential Services Supervisor.
Qualifications and Education requirements: NOTE: You may be required to provide validated educational documentation.*
Education/Certifications:Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of 2 academic years in Social Services related field
Certification in Mental Health and Addictions would be an asset
A different combination of education and experience might be considered
First Aid/CPR certificate
E-Learning (Abuse Prevention and WHIMIS) to be completed before first shift
Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector
Experience:Minimum of 2 years prior related experience, including frontline casework experience in a social service environment
Experience on how to work with people from diverse backgrounds and enjoy assisting others to solve problems
Have a solid understanding of issues facing persons experiencing a housing crisis, various social issues pertaining to homelessness and its impact on the families served
Have knowledge and a solid understanding of the Mental Health and Addictions Supports systems available to individuals in the region
Training in crisis intervention, conflict resolution and mediation skills is an asset
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities:Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility
Strong understanding of professional boundaries when working with a vulnerable population
Patience and ability to deescalate situations
Ability to coach and provide constructive feedback
Ability to problem solve and make independent decisions within an established framework while understanding the impact decisions will have on programming as well as programs around them
Ability and willingness to respect, promote, and support the mission, vision and values of The Salvation Army and develop an understanding of the purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implication as related to position responsibilities
Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills
Strong interpersonal, motivational, leadership ad organizational skills
Attentive listening skills for the purpose of coaching and conflict resolution
Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to develop and maintain a team environment, work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness
Demonstrated ability to take initiative, be reliable and operate in an environment of accountability
Proficient in Microsoft 365 computer programs
Understands the dynamics of residents' behavior with the ability to assess their needs and risks
Ability to demonstrate understanding of and empathy toward cultural differences. Must be sensitive to and respectful of cultural and lifestyle diversity
Maintain and promote a positive image of The Salvation Army by providing a high caliber of services and dealing with others in a courteous and professional manner

Education verification
This position requires the successful candidate to have a valid driver's license and an acceptable drivers abstract. The successful candidate would have to provide proof upon being hired.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $18.05 to $22.56 with a maximum of $27.07.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
