Job Description

We are seeking an Embedded Software Developer with experience working with Zephyr OS to join as a Consultant on our Engineering Services team at Actalent. This position would require onsite presence in London, ON occasionally around 1-2 times per month.
Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test embedded software for microcontroller-based systems using C/C++.

• Implement control applications on bare-metal and RTOS-based platforms with the Zephyr framework (Zephyr framework specifically).

• Debug embedded systems utilizing GDB, JTAG, oscilloscopes, and logic/network analyzers.

• Work closely with hardware components, understanding both hardware and software integration to seamlessly troubleshoot issues on both sides.

• Analyze system-level requirements and translate these into software specifications.

• Develop software architecture and design documentation, including interface definitions and test plans.

• Integrate with hardware peripherals such as SPI, UART, I2C, ADC, and timers, as well as serial protocols like RS232, RS485, and CAN.

• Collaborate with hardware engineers to support board bring-up and hardware validation.

• Utilize VS Code, Bitbucket, Jira, and Confluence for development and documentation workflows.

• Agile Methodologies (code reviews, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and iterative development)

• Create and maintain traceable documentation for design, verification, and validation activities.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or Computer Engineering. (HW focused degrees preferred)

• Approximately 5 years of hands-on experience in embedded software development.

• Strong proficiency in C/C++, with experience in both bare-metal and RTOS environments.

• Experience working with Zephyr.

• Experience working with microcontroller peripherals and serial communication protocols.

• Solid understanding of electronics fundamentals and the ability to read schematics.

• Experience with the full software development lifecycle, including unit testing and documentation.

• Proficiency with Git/Bitbucket, Jira, and test case management tools (such as Zephyr).

Assets:

• Experience with Modbus or distributed ECU networks.

• Familiarity with Freescale/NXP ColdFire MCF microcontrollers.

• Exposure to CodeWarrior IDE.

• CI/CD experience in embedded environments.

• Ability to quickly ramp up on new platforms and emerging technologies.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $49.00 - $54.00/hr.
