The Board is looking for a teacher who is a strong communicator, has strong interpersonal skills and is a team player.
The K-8 Native as a Second Language Teacher will provide engaging, culturally relevant instruction in
Ojibwe and/or Oji-Cree
, with an emphasis on oral communication. The teacher will support student learning through daily in-person instruction, ongoing assessment, and collaboration with staff, families, and the community to ensure student success. Preference will be given to candidates who self-identify as Indigenous.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan and deliver Ojibwe and/or Oji-Cree Language instruction for students in Kindergarten through Grade 8.
Create engaging lessons that reflect Indigenous culture and local perspectives.
Support student learning through differentiated instruction, assessment, and evaluation.
Communicate effectively with families, colleagues, and school administration.
Maintain accurate student records and reporting requirements.
Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and collaborative school environment.
Demonstrate commitment to student success, cultural preservation, and language revitalization.
Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school community events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
[OCT Candidates] Primary, Junior and Intermediate Divisions
[OCT Candidates] Native Languages, Part 1
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
[OCT Candidates] Religious Education in Catholic Schools, Part 1
[OCT Candidates] Special Education, Part 1
[Non-Certified Teacher Candidates] Prior teaching and/or training experience in a classroom setting
[Non-Certified Teacher Candidates] Bachelor's degree and/or pursuing BEd
Fluency in Ojibwe and/or Oji-Cree.
Awareness and appreciation of First Nations culture.
