Position Summary:

We are seeking an enthusiastic school teacher (or aspiring teacher) to teach novel study and writing skills to students ranging from grades 4 to 8. This role involves delivering lessons that enhance students' writing abilities, encourage creative expression, and support academic growth. Our Novel study program consists of both classic and modern novels and stories along with writing skills, grammar skills, and non-fiction analysis lessons. Materials are provided and teachers need to bring enthusiasm for writing, the ability to provide thoughtful guidance to developing writers and readers, and energy to the classroom.

Responsibilities:

Teach reading and writing to middle school in small-group settings. Implement a curriculum that covers a range of genres and writing skills. Provide personalized feedback and support to students. Foster a positive, inclusive, and intellectually stimulating classroom environment. Communicate regularly with program staff and, if needed, with parents or guardians. Maintain accurate records of student attendance and progress.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field (Master's preferred). Prior teaching experience is appreciated Strong writing and communication skills. Passion for teaching and mentoring young writers. Ability to manage small group dynamics and encourage student participation.

Schedule:

Classes are 2 hour blocks once or twice per week, typically either 4:30-6:30 or 6:30-8:30.

Current Opening: Mondays and Tuesdays 4:30-6:30 pm with more opportunities for private tutoring

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00-$35.00 per hour

Work Location: In person
