Job Description




Dates of employment: November-June 30th, 2024 Role:
The School Counsellor promotes student success, provides school support services and
responds to identified individual student with emotional, behavioural and social needs. The
school counsellor works with the inclusion team, as part of a professional team including
administration, teachers, learning coaches, paraprofessionals and school wellness steering
committee.
Responsibilities:
Provide individual and small group counselling to students, based on referrals from
administration and school staff

  • Resource supports for students and families with appropriate community agencies
  • Keeps records of students and services provided for tracking and accountability purposes
  • Attends school staff meetings
  • Contributes to IPP (Individual Program Plan) development, and updates as required
  • Works in partnership with community agencies, school staff, and students and families.
  • Provides proactive programming to address emerging school and student wellness issues
  • Provides in-services and workshops to school staff and community as required
  • Facilitates parent programs as required
  • Supports bus student management programming
  • Provide student leadership capacity building programs
  • Other duties as assigned

Personal Characteristics:
  • Skilled at counselling elementary aged students, coordinating information and developing
innovative approaches in supporting students
  • Ability to develop rapport with elementary students and families
  • Cross-cultural competence
  • Understanding of settlement, transition and acculturation issues as related to diverse
populations
  • excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • able to interpret standardized assessments and apply to targeted and individualized
programming, with current understandings of A.D.H.D. and Autism

Educational Qualifications: Relevant educational background in human services such as social work and counselling at the
graduate level Compensation:
