Electronics/biomedical Engineering Technologist

Job Description




The Electronics/Biomedical Engineering Technologist role is to secure value for DynaLIFEDx through effectively completing preventative maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment for the organization. Through excellence in customer service skills and interpersonal communication skills this individual makes a difference by ensuring organizational building equipment are maintained in a timely and cost effective manner.

Major Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment, including, but not limited to, centrifuges, ECG machines, freezers, incubators, microscopes, mixers/rotators, pulmonary function machines, refrigerators, stainers and water baths.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair of computer, electronic and general office equipment, including, but not limited to, personal computers, printers, UPS\xe2\x80\x99s monitors, terminals, modems, dictation machines, TV, VCR, paper shredder and laminators.
  • Ensure codes, laws and regulations pertaining to medical and laboratory equipment are adhered to.
  • Monitor and maintain deionized water systems.
  • Monitor and maintain compressed gasses piping systems.
  • Perform annual safety checks on electrical equipment and instruments.
  • Schedule annual maintenance and repairs of fume hoods, biological safety cabinets and local exhaust fans.
  • Maintain, dispatch and track loaner equipment.
  • Provide feedback to client department regarding status, cost, frequency and turnaround time of repairs.
  • Demonstrate discretion and confidentiality in all circumstances.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, technical departments & Patient Care Centers.
  • Monitor and record daily and weekly measurements and maintenance for deionized water and compressed gas systems.
  • Adhere to specific department safety measures by following established policies and procedures when using equipment and/or instruments.
Required Skills
  • Strong initiative, prioritization, organizational skills and ability to work unsupervised.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and investigate instrument malfunctions and/or problems.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
Required Experience
  • Experience in computer, electronics and microscope repair desirable.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology (Biomedical) or equivalent.
  • Certification with Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists (CET) and Canadian Medical and Biological Engineering Society (CBET) or equivalent.
  • Additional training in computer, electronics and microscope repair desirable.
  • Must have a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and satisfactory drivers abstract.
Other Information
  • This position will include travel within Calgary and Alberta as required.
  • Applicant(s) hired into this position will be required to provide a 5 year Driver\xe2\x80\x99s Abstract as a condition of employment.
  • Preference for this position will be given to bargaining unit members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the DynaLIFE/HSAA Collective Agreement.
  • As workload demands and operational requirements shift, the location, dates and/or hours of work may be changed.
