Job Summary


Dalhousie's Physics and Atmospheric Science Department is world-class leader in education and in research, offering programs at the undergraduate and graduate level. Reporting to the Administrator, the Electronics Technologist oversees the operations of the Electronics Workshop and provides electronics techniques and expertise to teaching and research labs.


Key Responsibilities


Oversee the operation of the Electronics Workshop which includes establishing safety standards, maintaining an adequate stock of parts and supplies and ensuring safe storage of chemicals. Maintain a budget for the Electronics Workshop, mainly used for consumable supplies. Work from researchers' specifications to design, build and test or modify and test a variety of circuit boards and electronic equipment. Participate in Physics course labs, demonstrates techniques, and acts as a resource person on the use of lab equipment. Repair and calibrate electronic equipment for researchers and students in the Physics Department, e.g. oscilloscopes, multichannel analysers, microcontrollers and other logic instruments used as measuring equipment, function generators, digital meters, radiation detection equipment, etc.
Provide computer-related services to department, including installing hardware and software, as well as servicing and maintaining department computer equipment.


Note


Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.


Required Qualifications


Undergraduate degree with seven years' experience in a related field (or an equivalent combination of training end experience). Strong computer skills required. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Precision electronic and circuit board experience required Strong problem solving, attention to detail, initiative and decision-making skills. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population while being adaptable and maintaining a strong safety focus.
