ROLE

The Electronics Technician Apprentice will support the installation, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of DC and low-voltage systems for fleet and equipment control. Working under the Electronics Technician, the Electronics Technician Apprentice will gain hands-on experience in installing and servicing cameras, sensors, control panels, relays, wiring harnesses, GPS tracking, and machine control components. Safety procedures, documentation, and client communication are key aspects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in installing and commissioning DC/low-voltage systems, including safety electronics and machine control modules. Pull, route, and terminate low-voltage cabling (e.g. sensors, communication gear, relays) using secure, neat installations. Support diagnostics and troubleshooting of control circuits: identify relay faults, voltage issues, sensor malfunctions, etc. Use schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints to assist with installations and troubleshooting. Assist in system testing, safety validation, and functional verification under supervision. Maintain accurate work documentation: test reports, installation logs, part usage. Maintain a safe work environment through use of PPE, following lockout-tagout procedures, hazard assessments, and job safety analysis. Keep parts and tools organized and support junior installations and inventory management (e.g. trays, racks, labels).



Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications
Pipeline Construction Safety Training. Various safety tickets/certificates as required depending on project. Valid Class?5 Driver's Licence. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
Experience
Technical background in electronics, mechatronics, or related field would an asset. Previous work experience in the pipeline construction industry would be an asset Heavy Duty Collision Avoidance, Machine Control, and GPS tracking technologies experience would be an asset.
Skills and Knowledge
Understanding of electrical theory, control circuits, DC systems, OHM's law and safety standards. Basic knowledge of low-voltage work: pulling cable, terminating connectors, wiring sensor/control systems. Applies creative thinking and problem-solving skills to develop quick, safe, and effective solutions on the fly, using out-of-the-box thinking across diverse environments, from the yard, shop, field, office, and on the go. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and willingness to learn. Physically able to lift and handle heavy objects.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This is a full-time position based at our Spruce Grove office. Must be able to work 5 - 6 days/week, 8 - 10 hours/day. Site based work throughout Alberta and British Columbia will be required. Project schedules will typically follow a 6-days on 1 day off shift working 12 hours per day.

The Electronics Technician Apprentice reports to the Electronics Technician.
