SalaryThe salary range for this position is CAD $36.69/Hr. - CAD $45.81/Hr.SummaryProvidence Health Care is now accepting applications for our Electroneurophysiology Technologist 2 positions, including a a temporary full-time line and casual.Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, Ambulatory Care and receiving work direction from the Physician Head, Neurology, the Electroneurophysiology Technologist performs technical functions related to Diagnostic Neurophysiology. Duties include conducting various tests such as Electroencephalography (E.E.G.), Evoked Potentials (EP) and components of Electromyography (EMG) such as Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS), recording measurements and formulating technical reports for interpretation by medical staff.Your duties will include:

  • Diagnostic Testing: Conducts EEG, EMG (NCS), and Evoked Potential (EP) tests, preparing patients, recording measurements, and adjusting equipment to ensure accurate results.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Records findings from EEG, EMG, and EP tests, noting normal and abnormal clinical manifestations, and prepares technical reports for interpretation by medical staff.
  • Patient Interaction: Explains procedures, prepares patients for testing, and administers sedation when necessary, ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the process.
  • Equipment Management and Training: Troubleshoots and maintains diagnostic equipment, and provides instruction and guidance to Electroneurophysiology students and residents during clinical practicums.
What You BringEducation
  • Completion of a recognized Electroneurophysiology Technology program plus two years\' recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Certification with the Canadian Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic Technologists (CBRET).
  • Certification with the Board of Registration of Electromyography Technologists of Canada (BRETC) and/or the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologists (AAET) to be attained within first three (3) years of hire.

  • Explains EEG, EMG (NCS), and EP diagnostic procedures to patients, records clinical history, and prepares patients for testing by measuring head size, preparing skin and applying electrodes with appropriate impedances. Administers sedation when necessary.
  • Conducts standard EMG (NCS), EEG recordings, and EP testing throughout the hospital, including ICU, Special Care Nursery, and acute care wards. Identifies and mitigates physiological and non-physiological artifacts during testing.
  • Conducts Evoked Potential Tests (visual, brainstem, somato-sensory) using various equipment, stimulating nerves, applying recording electrodes, assessing responses, and adjusting equipment as needed for comprehensive studies.
  • Documents EEG testing findings, including normal and abnormal clinical manifestations like seizures. Performs activation procedures (e.g., hyperventilation, photic stimulation, sleep) and monitors additional variables (EMG, ECG, EOG, respiration).
  • Documents EP testing parameters and identifies significant waveforms on test printouts, noting latency and amplitude for neurologist interpretation.
  • Performs EMG (NCS) on clients, operating equipment, adjusting settings, observing monitors, measuring data, and entering results into the computer for abnormalities assessment.
  • Ensures high-quality recordings for neurologist interpretation and provides detailed technical impressions to physicians as needed.
  • Removes electrodes, prepares patients for discharge, and sanitizes recording equipment and supplies for subsequent patients.
  • Instructs Electroneurophysiology students and residents during clinical practicums, providing guidance and demonstrating procedures at St. Paul\'s Hospital.
  • Conducts basic equipment troubleshooting and notifies supervisors of EMG(NCS)/EEG/EP equipment failures or supply needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
