Under the general direction of the Manager, Buildings, the range of duties is the maintenance, overhaul, construction, troubleshooting, and emergency repair of municipal electrical systems including Facilities and Utilities Equipment. Deployment to other duties will be required from time to time. Hours of work may include weekends and after hours call outs.


Required Skills, Qualifications and Abilities:

Completion of Grade 12 and/or a post-secondary diploma. Must possess a valid Interprovincial (or Red Seal), Harmonized Certificate of Qualification as an Industrial, Service or Maintenance Electrician, and possess or be eligible to obtain Field Safety Representative (Class B) status with Technical Safety BC. Demonstrable ability to diagnose problems and efficiently perform all necessary work on the electrical components of water, sewer and flood pumping stations, buildings, complex motor controls, standby generator systems, fire and security systems, and other municipal electrical equipment. Extensive, current experience as a maintenance or industrial service electrician, including a demonstrable ability to troubleshoot motor controls. Sound knowledge of hydraulic (water system) principles. Sound knowledge of PLC hardware and software (preferably Allan Bradley and Rockwell), SCADA systems, and other instrumentation. Demonstrable ability and sound knowledge of data communication cabling. Demonstrable ability to work within a Microsoft Windows software environment, good keyboarding skills, and ability to maintain and work with computerized records, and work within various programs. Independence of judgment and capability of working alone under minimal supervision. Sound knowledge of relevant WorkSafe BC safety regulations. Possession and maintenance of a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's License; a satisfactory current driver's abstract will be required. The position may be physically demanding; candidate must be able to successfully perform all duties associated with the position. A medical certificate attesting to suitability for this position may be required.
This is a unionized position (CUPE Local 358) and the collective agreement may be viewed on our website. Additional earnings may be obtained through an after-hours call-out system once the necessary level of competency has been achieved (Section 25.13).


Candidates being considered will be required to undergo a comprehensive evaluation of skills, qualifications, and abilities. The successful candidate must pass security clearance levels as established by the RCMP.
