The Opportunity:Company, Department: Nova Scotia Power, Power ProductionLocation: Milton, NS \xe2\x80\x93 On siteType of Employment: Regular, Full-timeSalary: $45.71 per hour, as per the NSPI/IBEW Collective AgreementClosing Date: August 30th, 2024We are currently looking for an Electrician (Industrial) to join our Hydro & Wind team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Operations Superintendent \xe2\x80\x93 Western Operations, you will ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Hydro System. Key elements of this role include::As an Electrician (Industrial):

  • You will be responsible for system trouble shooting and timely resolution of electrical deficiencies. You must develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of the purpose and operation of all electrical/electronic equipment on the hydro system, including PLC\'s, solid state relaying, remote SCADA telemetry and all associated protection equipment, together with a good understanding of all mechanical equipment and civil works.
  • You will be responsible for performing electrical/electronic maintenance, issuing safe work permits, and assisting with equipment overhauls.
  • You will be required to assist with general operations and maintenance activities related to head gates and water control structures, emergency manning of stations and other assigned duties. You may be required to travel to other Nova Scotia Power sites for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to participate in regulatory training and be willing to participate in on-the-job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills.
  • You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of co-workers by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.
This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.Your primary residence must be located within 30 minutes of the Western Hydro Operations (16 River Road, Milton, NS), and you will be required to take on call rotation and work other than normal hours and/or in extreme conditions. You will have 90 days to provide proof of primary residence.These skills will make you successful::You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and where possible possess the skills and experience listed below:
  • Certification as a Journeyman Industrial Electrician with a minimum of two years\xe2\x80\x99 experience with troubleshooting electrical equipment is required.
  • If no qualified candidates apply, consideration may be given to those individuals who hold Certification as a Construction Electrician, with the expectation they will complete their Industrial Electrician Certification within an agreed timeframe.
  • You have proven problem resolution skills and the flexibility and ability to adapt to rescheduled assignments.
  • You must be a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills, a strong computer aptitude and the ability to deal with multiple tasks and demands.
  • You must have the skills and physical capabilities to perform all duties, including working at considerable heights and within watercourses.
  • You must hold a valid Nova Scotia Driver\'s License with a minimum of two years driving experience and provide a driver\'s abstract satisfactory to NSPI.
  • Operation and maintenance experience associated with wind and tidal power generation and certification as an overhead crane operator and/or experience with alignment of rotating equipment would be considered assets.
Consideration may be given to members of an Industrial Electrician Apprenticeship program if no qualified candidates apply.Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:
  • Must be able to lift 70 lbs. from the floor to waist level on an occasional basis and 70 lbs. from shoulder to overhead level on a minimal basis.
  • Able to carry 70 lbs. with both hands on a minimal basis, with the overall ability to carry 30 lbs. on an occasional basis.
  • Able to push and pull 50 lbs. with whole body strength and be able to push and pull 100 lbs. with upper body strength on an occasional basis.
  • Perform static reaching at waist to above shoulder level on a frequent basis and from below waist level on an occasional basis.
  • Perform frequent standing and twisting.
  • Perform occasional walking and neck flexion and rotation movements.
  • Perform sitting, squatting, kneeling, crouching, climbing, bending, stooping, and forward flexional movements on a minimal basis.
  • Ability to perform fine finger manipulation and possess a simple to firm grasp while performing turning and pinching motions.
