Must have the physical capacity to carry out the functions of the trade including the ability, on occasion, to lift heavy objects, work at heights including from lifts or ladders, and work in underground tunnels, and in cramped quarters or confined spaces.
May be in or out of doors, at heights or in cramped quarters and under varying conditions.
May involve work on high or low voltage.
Salary Range:
$31.31 per hour
YOUR FOCUS
Reporting to the Electrical General Foreperson, the Electrician is skilled in maintenance and repair work in the electrical trade at the Journeyperson level.
Work as an electrician, alone or as a member of a crew, employed on maintenance and construction work orders and projects.
Maintain electrical wiring systems and related equipment according to applicable codes, regulations drawings and specifications.
Maintain and create load centres, panel boards, distribution boards, switchboards, sub-stations, switchgear, transformers, and related protective devices.
Perform and maintain any wiring method with the terminations acceptable under the codes and regulations in force.
Perform maintenance on input and signal or operating devices associated with an automatic process system.
Maintain motors, motor starters, controllers, and protective devices.
Maintain electrical emergency standby systems and control devices.
Maintain fire alarm systems, communication systems, intrusion alarm systems and other life safety and property protection systems.
Prepare job estimates as to the quantity of labour and materials required to complete the job.
Allocate and supervise the work of Trades Helpers and/or Labourers, as required.
Perform elementary duties of another trade to expedite the completion of the assigned task.
Apply safety precautions as required to ensure minimum hazard to self and others.
Maintain assigned tools and equipment.
Perform other related duties as required.
WHAT YOU BRING
Formal basic education as required by the N.B. Department of Post-Secondary Education Training and Labour to meet Journeyperson standards for the Electrical Trade.
Must possess a valid current Journeyperson Certificate to practice the Electrical Trade in the Province of New Brunswick.
3 years of diversified experience at the Journeyperson level in the Electrical Trade with a concentration on maintenance is an asset.
Additional Strengths:
Must be thoroughly familiar with the Canadian Electrical Code, the National Building Code, the National Fire Code, and the New Brunswick Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Ability to read and interpret drawings, work from sketches and diagrams, and plan and execute completion of wiring systems according to applicable codes, statutes, and regulations.
Able to work with other tradespeople and versatility in handling and use of tools of the trade.
