To maintain, service and coordinate the repair of electrical systems such as primary distribution systems, high and low voltage systems, lighting systems, fire alarms, security systems, HVAC and Energy Management Control Systems.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Services, maintains and repairs electrical systems and equipment
Inspects and maintains distribution systems such as emergency generators, uninterrupted power sources, high and low switch gears and transfer switches
Repairs and maintains electrical components such as ballasts, yard lights, sewer pumps, fan motors and repair commercial laundry and cooking equipment
Diagnoses, tests and repairs fire alarm systems, building security systems and communication systems
Troubleshoots, repairs and maintains HVAC control systems and designs
Installs controls and hardware for Client Comfort Systems
Interprets electrical blueprints, prepares cost estimates, orders materials and parts and ensures require permits are in place
Coordinates and monitors the installation and repairs of building systems such as security and communications systems, data cabling and electrical equipment
Arranges maintenance contracts for various systems such as electrical, fire alarms and security alarms and inspects systems for safe operation and plans repair work required
Monitors the work of co-workers and contractors on minor repairs, installations and maintenance of assigned buildings
Previews electrical plans, specifications for new buildings, new installations or planned upgrades including assisting with assessing work required, recommending changes or additions and providing information for the design of electrical systems
Plans maintenance schedules, prepares electrical estimates and analyzes maintenance costs for input into annual budget
Prepares specifications to purchase services and materials
Responds to emergencies and problem calls from clients
Attend client safety meetings as required draws electrical schematics to reflect wiring changes or new installations
Maintains inspection reports, logs, manuals, other files as applicable
Provides support and assistance to co-workers or staff as required regarding electrical safety, lockouts, power outages
Recommends replacement for tools and equipment as required
EDUCATION, JOB-RELATED YEARS OF EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
More than 1 years up to 3 years of facility operations and maintenance work experience
High school diploma plus trades training, certification, licensing or active apprenticeship
Strong ability to adhere and to properly execute processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance
Ability to maintain, troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical building systems and equipment
Strong building mechanical and electrical equipment and system troubleshooting and resolution skills
Current knowledge of fire, life, safety and building codes and standards and ability to research and apply related codes and standards
Possesses a strong environmental, health and safety mindset. Strong ability to perform work in a safe manner
Strong client-service orientation along with a high sense of urgency
Effective communication skills for the purpose of data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification
Self-motivated and willing to learn
Work well independently and be a team player
Consistently present and maintain a positive and professional image.
LICENSES AND/OR PROFESSIONAL ACCREDITATION
Trades certification or license as Electrician
Must meet site and/or position specific security clearance requirements imposed by the client for an assigned location and/or region
Valid drivers' license
The successful candidate will be required to attain and maintain a valid and active RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance (ERSC). Please note, a condition for attaining an Enhanced Reliability Security (ERS) clearance includes the condition that applicants must have lived in Canada a minimum of five years to apply for ERS.
SUPERVISION/DIRECTION EXERCISED
The position is not responsible for providing direct supervision.

This is a unionized role with the BCGEU governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement. This is a 35 hour per week position and the rate of pay for this role is $43.92/hour. This position is eligible for participation in the Public Service Pension Plan and Extended Health and Dental benefits after 6 months of service.
