The primary role of the Electrian is to maintain all machines to ensure they are in good, safe working order for continuous production. The accurate completion of tasks and documentation supports our SQF Food Safety and Quality Program.
This specific position will play a key role in operation of the egg grading machinery during the afternoon shift.
SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Grade 12 education and strong English (written and verbal) and mathematical skills required
Trade ticket as an Electrician is required
Journeyman experience (minimum of 4 [four] years)
Several years maintenance experience servicing and maintaining processing and packaging line equipment in a production environment preferred
Experience using computer applications and programs
Good rapport building with other tradesmen and suppliers required
A strong mechanical aptitude and skill at troubleshooting machinery required
Knowledge developing preventative maintenance programs, including training and operating procedures
Prior experience using mobile equipment considered an asset
No formal education or license or certificate needed but courses in electronics, computers and/or welding considered an asset
Strong leadership and communication skills, able to provide clear, concise general instructions for team effectiveness
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently with little supervision are required
Must be able to follow set procedures and efficiently and effectively prioritize and organize their and other's work
Must be able to communicate and work well with others, demonstrating politeness, respect, and courtesy in communication and daily interactions
Maintenance workers rely on others to see and hear problems as they occur; therefore, they must be able to carefully coach and encourage staff to gain understanding about the nature of a problem
Analytical problem solving required (observing the problem, deciding the cause, and then working out the most effective way to resolve it)
Must be able to react quickly to problems as they arise to minimize production down time
RESPONSIBILITIES
General
Ensure all documentation is maintained through all outlets, including the Fiix CMMS
Update and maintain Fiix work orders, ensuring employees are effectively using Fiix
Maintaining the egg grading machine to ensure it is in good, safe working order for continuous production
Reacting promptly to problems with the machine and resolving breakdowns quickly and efficiently
Managing the preventative maintenance program designed to keep down time to a minimum and ensuring there is an adequate supply of spares to replace broken or worn-out machine parts
Monitoring the egg grading machine, visually inspecting components while running and troubleshooting any problems that are detected
Shutting down the machine post-production and ensuring everything is ready for the Sanitation Crew
Operating mobile equipment when needed to complete above tasks
Assisting others wherever needed to ensure continual running of the machine
Ensuring employees are following established HACCP (Food Safety), biosecurity, and health and safety procedures
Ensuring all food safety issues are communicated with Plant Manager and Maintenance Manager
Ensure contractors comply with Outside Contractors sign-off
Attend all required training sessions and scheduled meetings when instructed by the Plant Manager or Maintenance Manager
Keep work area clean and tidy and free of hazards
Inform Plant Manager of any conditions that could affect food safety
All other duties assigned by the Maintenance Manager or Plant Manager
Electrician
Perform preventative maintenance for all egg grading equipment
Responsible for maintenance-related issues on/with the 530-Grading Machine
Responsible for maintenance-related issues on/with the BVM Wrapper

The incumbent will be working in a proprietary environment. Policies and procedures are shared between Golden Valley Foods Ltd. and the L.H. Gray & Son group of companies. Discussion of these with non-Golden Valley Foods and L.H. Gray affiliated employees is strictly forbidden. Some specific policies can be shared with Fresh Start as Golden Valley Foods owners.
