RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain the egg grading machine to ensure it is in good, safe working order for continuous production, visually inspecting components while running and troubleshooting any problems that are detected
Maintain other company equipment and machinery including mobile equipment
React promptly to problems with the machine and resolve breakdowns quickly and efficiently
Perform the pre-start procedure and start the machine up pre-production to ensure everything is ready for the 6:00am start time
Shut down the machine post-production and ensuring everything is ready for the Sanitation Crew
Maintain & follow the preventative maintenance program designed to keep down time to a minimum
Assist in ensuring there is an adequate supply of spare parts to replace broken or worn-out machine parts
Fill in for Machine Operators to assist with running the machine during lunch and break periods
Assist others wherever needed to ensure continual running of the machine
Operating mobile equipment as required
Follow established HACCP (Food Safety), biosecurity, and health and safety procedures
Keeping work area clean and tidy and free of hazards
Inform Plant Manager of any workplace hazards or conditions that could affect food safety
Do not remove or make ineffective any protective devises required by the employer or by the regulations. Do not use or operate any equipment or work in a way that may endanger any worker
Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Journeyman Millwright preferred, Apprentices, Electricians, and those with equivalent to journeyman millwright experience will be considered
3+ years maintenance experience maintaining processing and packaging line equipment in a production environment is preferred
Equipment Operator's Certification to operate the forklift and pallet jack, or the ability to obtain certifications
Experience following preventative maintenance programs and documenting work as it is completed. Experience using computer based preventative maintenance systems an asset
Strong communication skills in English (written and verbal) and excellent mathematical skills
Strong mechanical aptitude and skill at troubleshooting machinery is a must
Able to provide clear, concise general instructions for team effectiveness
Must be able to communicate and work well with others, demonstrating politeness, respect, and courtesy in communication and daily interactions
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently with little supervision
Must be able to follow set procedures and efficiently and effectively prioritize and organize work
Maintenance Technicians rely on others to see and hear problems as they occur, therefore they must be able to carefully coach and encourage staff to gain understanding about the nature of a problem
Excellent problem-solving skills (observing the problem, deciding the cause, and then working out the most effective way to resolve it)
Able to react quickly to problems as they arise to minimize production down time
Able to apply the information found in manuals, which often only offer instruction guidelines
Able to independently bring forth innovative ideas and suggestions to improve production and/or the work environment
Possesses good hand-eye coordination and dexterity needed when using tools to make adjustments to the machine and when handling product and equipment
Able to get into different physical positions as required to perform equipment maintenance
Able to lift 50 lbs
