CME Ltd. West Coast Division is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer with P-Eng. designation to join our team in Port Alberni, British Columbia.

The position for the Electrical Engineer at Canadian Maritime Engineering will cater to new vessel construction projects, as well as in-house engineering support for vessel refit projects in accordance with Transport Canada regulations (small vessel regulations). The candidate will have extensive knowledge in small vessel construction (Landing crafts, workboats, tugs, fishing vessels and more), and will not only comply with standard best ship-building practices, but intimately reference Electrical codes such as TP127E, TP1332 and more. The position requires familiarity utilizing electrical design software's such as AutoCAD, Solidworks and/or Navisworks.
Qualifications and Specific Skills:
Read and interpret drawings, schematics, and electrical specifications to determine layout of electrical equipment installation
Interpret and red-line drawings/ submit RFI's based on inconsistencies, wiring errors, and code/standards violations.
Mark-up and submit as-built drawings
Design and verify panelboards for AC systems powered by generators and shore power as well as DC systems and supervision/alarm panels.
Install, tests and commission generators and power electronics
Layout, modify and design marine navigation electronic systems such as radar, depth sounders, multi-function displays, NMEA0183 and 2k, coaxial cables and antennas, GPS, AIS.
Install and commission engine control electronics and actuators
Perform load calculations and selective coordination calculations.
Calculate requirements and select batteries inverter/chargers.
Build cable schedules from drawings
Layout and design cable transits and cable tray
Layout and design wheelhouse console panels including displays, metering, switching.
Layout and design 12/24/36V lighting systems.
Select cables based on specifications, standards, drawings, ampacity and voltage drop
Perform insulation resistance testing on ship wiring and write reports based on findings.
Source parts based on specifications, standards and requirements. Submit orders.
Familiarity with internal processes related to purchasing, organizational structure and reporting
Communicating with vendors, third party technical staff and internal engineering staff.
Essential qualifications:
Education (one of the following):
Electronics engineer with controls, automation, and/or marine experience
Electrical engineer with controls, automation, and/or marine experience
Electrical engineer co-op students with marine/shipboard knowledge will be considered
P-Eng. designation required
Experience:
1+ years of shipyard engineering experience
Equivalent engineering plus general shipboard knowledge/experience
Asset qualifications (Preferred)
Extensive experience applying Transport Canada marine standards such as TP1332E, TP127, ABYC E-11 or international certification body standards.
Configuring, troubleshooting, wiring industrial control panels
Systems integrations experience: hydraulics, HVAC, marine electrical, engine control and electronics, supervisory and controls, fire alarm, engine controls, navigation electronics
Experience working for a naval architect or marine panel/console engineering company
