Reporting to a Senior Engineer, the role of an Automation and SCADA Engineer is designing and implementing of automation systems in electrical facilities for the Transmission and Distribution, Power generation, Industrial and Renewables sectors. An automation and SCADA Engineer will apply their knowledge and experience to analyze, evaluate, and create new designs, drawings and revise existing designs, drawings and programs with guidance from senior engineering personnel, as needed.
Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates that possess previous engineering experience in electrical facilities for the Transmission and Distribution, Power generation, Industrial and Renewables sectors
Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in construction and field installations
Knowledge of industry standard protocols such as IEC (61850, 60870-5), non-IEC (DNP3, Modbus), and related cyber security (IEC 62351, NERC CIP).
Working knowledge of modern control systems (SCADA, RTUs, PLCs)
GE, Siemens, ABB, EATON, SEL, Allen Bradley, Survalent, Honeywell, AES
Ability to balance Office Design and Configuration with Field Engineering Implementation
Ability to assess and troubleshoot in the field configuration and communication challenges.
Apply knowledge of components, arrangements, and standards to complete design packages for substations that include, but are not limited to, schematics, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials.
Competent in basic computer skills to include Microstation, Autocad, Trane Software and Microsoft Office products
Good Knowledge of relevant legislations, standards, regulations, guides and good practise (CSA, ANSI, IEC and IEEE standards.)
Familiarity in design of electrical facilities for Transmission and Distribution, Power generation, Industrial and Renewables sector.

Qualifications
Degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering degree required; or Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited post-secondary institution
2 - 8 years of experience in the Utilities industry is preferred but not required
Experience in construction and field installations an asset
Proficient in medium/high voltage power engineering in electrical facilities for the Transmission and Distribution, Power generation, Industrial and Renewables sectors
Proficient ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Eligible for registration with APEGGA or ASET
Dedicated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines
Navigate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks
