Your Opportunity
You will work on smaller projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a Senior Engineer/Designer. The Electrical Engineer - EIT should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer certain electrical power and lighting systems or products for a project. An Engineer in Training will perform a variety of tasks which may include calculations, and field work. The smaller projects that an Electrical Engineer- EIT may be assigned to will have relatively few complex features.
Your Key Responsibilities
Supports project team in development of design documentation, plans and reports for relevant project design elements.
Assists in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
Perform detail design for the distribution system which includes overhead and underground systems.
Perform site visit before performing detail design.
Communicate with stakeholder and coordinate with client for the outcome of site visit.
Attends project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.
Participates in value engineering and basic cost estimating.
Implements sustainable design principles.
Performs calculations to analyze and design electrical system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Basic knowledge and application of the National Electrical Code, energy codes, and other pertinent codes.
Basic knowledge of electrical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
Should be able to size key distribution equipment such as transformer fuses, reclosers, overhead and underground conductors.
Working knowledge of MS Office, PLSCADD, PLSPOLE, AutoCAD and Microstation.
Basic understanding of all phases of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions.
Ability to check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
Understanding of electrical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
Ability to interpret sketches, drawings and other similar material.
Should understand various stages of project life cycle.
BC Hydro distribution underground design will be an asset.
Construction and operation experience of distribution system will be an asset.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Power).
Registered Engineer in Training with EGBC.
Minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience. Co-ops and internships will be considered.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
