Job Description

At Tersa Earth Innovations, we believe the future of industry is green, profitable, and powered by biology. We're a dynamic biotechnology company developing

TersaClean

, a proprietary, modular synthetic biology platform designed to fundamentally disrupt the mining sector. Our technology doesn't just treat waste; it

turns environmental liability into a massive asset

by recovering valuable metals and neutralizing harmful effluent streams.

Consider the scale: an estimated

$3.4 Trillion and rising

in recoverable minerals remains trapped in global mining waste. Tersa Earth is capturing this opportunity, driving our mission to transform resource extraction with

carbon-neutral biotech

--restoring ecosystems while generating significant industry revenue. We offer a

first-of-its-kind, scalable solution

that addresses real-world industrial challenges with scientific elegance.

This is where you come in.

We are seeking a visionary

Electrical Engineer

ready to translate our scientific breakthroughs into market-ready, industrial-scale reality.

Join us and build the future of sustainable mining.

Position Overview

The position is an experienced

Electrical Engineer

to support the scale-up of an electrochemical mining wastewater treatment biotechnology. The role focuses on designing power electronics, integrating sensors and control systems, developing electrochemical cell architectures, and supporting field-ready scale-up for industrial pilot deployments. You will work closely with mechanical and process engineering teams to deliver reliable, site-deployable treatment modules for complex mining water environments.

Key Responsibilities

Electrochemical System & Power Electronics Design

Design and optimize electrical architectures for low-voltage DC electrochemical treatment modules. Develop power electronics for cell operation, efficiency optimization, and overpotential management. Perform performance modelling and electrical efficiency calculations for electrochemical reactors. Specify materials, interconnects, and protective designs suitable for corrosive, high-ion mining wastewater Other related duties as needed.

Circuit Modeling, Simulation & Analysis

Use LTSpice, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar tools to model circuits, simulate load behavior, and evaluate treatment cell performance under variable water chemistry. Conduct electrochemical cell design analysis including internal resistance, reaction efficiency, and power balance.

Instrumentation, Sensors & Control Systems

Integrate industrial sensors (flow, pH, ORP, EC, pressure, temperature) with control platforms. Develop PLC-based control systems and HMIs for automated operation, data logging, and remote monitoring. Build signal conditioning, filtering, and isolation solutions for stable, long-term sensor operation in harsh environments.

Scale-Up Engineering & Industrial Deployment

Support scaling of electrical systems from benchtop prototypes to industrial pilots. Design schematics, PCB layouts, panel wiring, and electrical enclosures (e.g., IP66/NEMA rated) using Altium or similar ECAD tools. Collaborate with mechanical and process engineers to ensure integrated electrical, hydraulic, and chemical system compatibility. Assist with commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization during pilot installations on mining sites.

Qualifications

2+ years in electrical engineering, focusing on battery or fuel cell technologies. Expertise in power electronics, sensors, control systems, and electrochemical cell design Hands-on work with MFCs or similar systems Proficiency in circuit simulation software (e.g., LTSpice, MATLAB/Simulink) for MFC scaling. Strong knowledge of battery/fuel cell integration, including efficiency calculations and overpotential management. Ability to design PLC based HMI systems for industrial applications. Working knowledge of Altium schematic and layout. Experience scaling electrical systems for industrial/cleantech pilots. Collaborated with mechanical and process teams on integrated designs.

What We Offer

An opportunity to shape the commercialization strategy of breakthrough synthetic biology solutions with global environmental impact. A collaborative, mission-driven environment committed to scientific integrity and real-world impact. The chance to work across scientific, engineering, and business disciplines to bring world-changing technologies to market. Competitive compensation and benefits.
