This role is based at our Burlington, Ontario facility, supporting our Lab Automation group, an ISO 9001 certified organization. Our team designs, manufactures, and installs robotic solutions globally, accelerating drug discovery, synthetic biology research, and clinical testing for major pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers. How you will make an impact:




As an Electrical Designer, you will play an important role as part of a project team providing engineered electrical solutions to ensure performance and safety of engineered-to-order (ETO) automated laboratory projects.

What you will contribute:



Team Collaboration

Collaborate with multi-functional project teams that include the customer, Project Managers, Integrators, Mechanical Designers, Material Planning, Procurement, to plan and develop an ETO solution to achieve the agreed requirements Promote a multi-functional team environment through design reviews at key stages of the projects Support the pre-sales team as a technical consultant to support customer bids on new business Work with vendors to review designs for manufacturability and select components for the system solution providing alternates due to obsolescence or supply chain constraints. Support root cause investigations and resolution with internal team members and vendors

Technical & Safety

Perform power distribution calculations to specify the electrical and other applicable utility requirements for the customer to operate the automated system properly and safely Create electrical schematics drawings for the system's communications, power distribution and safety circuitry using AutoCAD Perform and detail Safety Risk Assessments on the system design for compliance with locally legislated requirements such as OSHA, CSA, CE, UKCA, UL, IEC or customer specific Prepare Bills of Materials (BOM) pertaining to electrical assemblies for order release in the ERP system

Continuous Improvement

Help to improve design efficiency and consistency from project to project by maintaining the central design library for commonly used components and assemblies Ensure design issues and/or problems are resolved effectively and accurately vetted by the multi-functional project team Investigate, propose, and implement design improvements to enhance our product quality, value to our customers, or improve our profitability

How will you get here?



Education

Bachelor's degree, preferably in Electrical Engineering or equivalent Professional Engineers of Ontario (P.Eng) license considered an asset

Experience


--------------

5+ years' experience in an electrical design or engineering role Experience with robotics and/or automated systems considered an asset Able to perform power distribution calculations and heat generation analysis CMSE or experience in Machinery Safety considered an asset Experience with maintaining part items in an ERP system Experience with industrial network infrastructure Experience in a customer-facing role

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Proficiency with the latest version of AutoCAD Knowledge of domestic and international electrical codes Strong interpersonal skills, both verbal and written Able to work independently with minimal direction to meet project objectives Detailed oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills Excellent time management skills, able to manage competing priorities

Valid driver's license and passport Occasional local and international may be required
