The Electrical Design Manager - R&D will lead the electrical engineering design team in developing innovative, reliable, and energy-efficient electrical systems for advanced HVAC products. This role requires a strong balance of technical expertise, leadership, and project management skills to drive research, new product development, and continuous improvement initiatives. The incumbent will collaborate closely with mechanical, controls, and software engineering teams to ensure integration of electrical systems into HVAC products that meet performance, safety, and compliance standards. An overview of your responsibilities!Lead, mentor, and develop a team of electrical engineers and designers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning
Drive the design and development of electrical systems including power distribution, motor control, sensors, PCB design, wiring harnesses, and safety system
Lead R&D projects from concept through commercialization, overseeing prototyping, testing, and validation in compliance with UL, CSA, CE, IEC, NFPA, and NEC standards
Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, controls, and software engineering to ensure seamless product integration
Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources, while supporting supplier evaluation and selection
Establish best practices for design, quality, and compliance, while ensuring documentation and certification readiness
Stay ahead of emerging technologies to continuously enhance product innovation, efficiency, and sustainability
What you'll need, among other things!Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred)
10+ years of experience in electrical design, including 3-5 years in leadership
Background in HVAC, refrigeration, or mission-critical industries
Demonstrated success leading R&D and new product development initiatives
Proficiency with CAD/EDA tools (AutoCAD Electrical, Altium Designer, etc.)
Strong knowledge of power electronics, motor control, and embedded systems
Familiarity with compliance standards such as UL, CSA, CE, IEC, NFPA, and NEC
Understanding of HVAC fundamentals is a plus
Proven ability to mentor and develop engineers
Strong organizational and project management skills
Collaborative communicator who thrives in fast-paced, cross-functional environments
