Seeking a private casual personal companion/caregiver for a healthy, English speaking, elderly Chinese couple who live SW of Calgary about 10 minutes west of West Springs.This is a CASUAL position only. Hours are flexible but will be ideally be only 2-3 hrs per day AND 3 times per week (between 6-8 hrs/week total) so living nearby to be able to drive 10 minutes outside of the SW sector of the city will be an asset.Companion/caregiver will provide a variety of non-medical duties with respect, patience, compassion, integrity, consistency, reliability and accountability. Assisting clients with their exercise/activity/craft program is the main focus with some housekeeping duties. However, NO personal care services are required (e.g. bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, cooking, or feeding).REQUIREMENTS: 1. Ability to carry out directions, read, write and speak English CLEARLY.2. Ability to effectively communicate with the elderly (hard of hearing and slowing mental ability) with patience and compassion.3. Speaking Cantonese will be an asset but not required.4. Previous personal or educational experience with the geriatric population.5. Post-secondary education/training/experience in the social or health sciences an asset.6. Maturity and ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job.7. Understands the unique needs and challenges of the elderly population.8. Proof of COVID Vaccination and BoosterRESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provide companionship with conversation, music, crafts or activities (but NO television).2. Walk (inside and outside depending on weather) and lead a prescribed exercise program with the couple as assigned.3. Perform light housecleaning duties in kitchen and washroom, dusting, occasional vacuuming.4. Occasionally assist with changing bed linens and laundry.5. Recognize, record and report any changes in physical condition, behavior, appearance and/or medical needs if they arise.7.Document visit records/services delivered in provided notebook.ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: * Must be a minimum of 18 years of age, already legal to work in Canada
* Hold the minimum education, experience, and skills to perform responsibilities.
* Must have a clean Criminal Background/Vulnerable Sector Search current within the last 3 months prior to start date.
* Must have a reliable vehicle to drive to site (no public transportation available).
* First Aid/CPR training within the 12 months.* Ability to lift, push or pull 20 pounds
* Ability to bend, twist, stoop, kneel, and reachPay: $17-$19 per hour.* Hours are flexible but will be ideally be 2-3 hrs per day AND 2- 3 times per week (between 6-8 hrs/week).
