About the EFry Health Centre

The EFry Health Services Society is a registered non-profit community health centre. Established in September 2023, the EFry Health Centre emerged as a purpose-built facility in Surrey to provide marginalized women and children with access to longitudinal health care and the support services they need to build stable lives.

The EFry Health Centre offers vulnerable women and children a comprehensive solution by providing holistic, gender-sensitive, trauma-informed, and culturally safe healthcare services.

Patients at EFry Health Centre often experience poverty, grappling with complex physical and mental health needs that often remain unattended outside of emergency care. Their challenging circumstances not only hinder their ability to navigate the healthcare system but also make it difficult to afford even basic over-the-counter medications or recommended treatments.

Our unique and holistic care model brings together a team of professionals in primary care, mental wellness, dentistry and kinesiology to offer patients with seamless health and wellness services delivered with respect and without judgement or stigma. Moreover, it facilitates streamlined access to a wide range of programs offered by our sister society, EFry Greater Vancouver, including shelter and housing supports, substance use recovery, job training and employment assistance, and programs for healthy child development.

The Role

The Board is comprised of between three and five volunteer Directors that govern and provide oversight of the Center including:

setting the vision, mission and strategy for the Centre;

approving annual budgets and providing fiduciary oversight;

Risk management;

Management succession planning and development;

Ensure compliance policies and procedures;

champion and promote the Centre to partners and/or prospective funders; and

strategic guidance to the Executive Director and leadership, who are responsible for the day-to-day operations the centre.

The Opportunity

Directors are elected by the members of the EFry Health Services Society for a two year term starting in September, and are eligible for re-election at the Annual General Meeting for up to three consecutive terms. Specifically, we are seeking:

a director with human resources experience or legal experience (employment law experience is considered an asset);

a director with finance and experience. Candidates who have served as a Treasurer on a non-profit Board or in a Chief Financial Officer or similar role in a non-profit organization; and

candidates with experience and interest in serving as an Officer (Chair, Secretary, Treasurer) are considered an asset.

Candidates with a background in Medicine or Allied Health are also encouraged to apply, as this expertise is considered a valuable asset to the Board.
