EEG EMG Technician

Permanent Full Time position

The EEG/EMG Technician is responsible for the performance of EMG and EEG studies on referred patients and for functions associated with daily operations of the EMG/EEG lab such as supplies inventory control and ordering. The EMG/EEG Technician will prepare patients for and conduct standard nerve conduction studies, brain wave conduction studies, collect information pertinent to interpretation of the test and assist in the maintenance of the equipment. The EMG/EEG Technician will collaborate with EMG/EEG lab physicians in planning and conducting the tests.

Contribute to safe, quality care by

  • Prepare patients for EMG/EEG examinations.
  • Completes nerve conduction or brain wave conduction studies in accordance with departmental protocols and best practices.
  • Prepares reports of nerve conduction or brain wave conduction studies for interpretation by the physician.
  • Assists the physician electromyographer in completion of the needle EMG assessment.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety.
  • Checks, calibrates and performs routine maintenance to diagnostic equipment.
  • Contributing to a safe, inclusive environment for all through compliance with patient and staff safety policies and procedures.
What must you have?
  • Graduate of an accredited Electroneurodiagnostic Technology or Electromyography Technology program.
  • Registered or eligibility to register with Canadian Board of Registration of Electroneurophysiology Technologists (CBRET) or Board of Registered Electromyography Technologists of Canada (BRETC).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in performing both EEG and EMG tests.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificate.

  • Experience working with electronic medical records.
  • Current knowledge of best practices in EMG and EEG.
  • Understanding of neuromuscular anatomy and physiology, electrophysiological equipment and electronic principles.
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate clinical data and information.
  • Ability to work independently, self-directed and can effectively lead clinical inter-professional teams.
  • Well-developed ability to organize daily departmental activities and priorities.

Preferably, your profile also includes:
  • Current knowledge of best practices in EMG and EEG.
  • Membership with Canadian Association of Electroneurophysiology Technologists (CAET) is an asset.
  • Ability to speak a second language.
