Summary



Reporting to the Director of Programs & Services, the

Educator, Skilled Trade



is part of the prevention/outreach team.

This role will provide information and training to prevent GBV in various demographics and sectors that are traditionally male- dominated, such as skills and trades. This is a key initiative for Interval House of Hamilton (IHOH) since prevention work helps minimize the instances of GBV and will help IHOH achieve our mission to create violence free lives for all women, children and communities.

As the Educator, Skilled Trade, you'll deliver impactful training to unions, trades councils, and workplaces across Ontario. You'll help shape safer environments by developing materials, leading sessions, and building partnerships in the skills and trades sector.

This position performs their duties in accordance with the mission, vision, values, and strategic goals of the organization. All IHOH staff are required to work within and comply with any and all applicable legislation.

Job Duties



The main responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

Refine training design and materials to increase GBV prevention in the skills and trades sector using an inter-sectional feminist lens. Create an effective set of education and advocacy materials in various accessible formats to be distributed to work sites. Confidently lead GBV prevention training within traditionally hyper-masculine workplaces. Provide effective training to local/provincial unions, trades councils and/or craft councils. Skillfully navigate the sector using networking skill to leverage and expand partnerships in the skills and trades sector throughout Ontario, such as the Provincial Building and trade Council (PBTC) and their affiliated Local Unions, Building Trades Councils, and Provincial Craft Councils. Deliver training to leadership of various workplaces/worksites across the province. Develop metrics, collect, and analyze data to accurately monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the training being provided. Produce evaluation reports of the program identifying recommendations for improvements and sharing the factors that lead to its success. Share best practices through media circulated in participating union and company newsletters, and public service announcements. Provide regular project reporting by collecting data on the progress of the project and its impacts for reporting to Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE).
As a member of the IHOH team, this role will also assist with the following duties:

Assist in soliciting for donations and sponsorships. Assist/attend fundraising/sponsorship events providing support as needed. Provide reports on your department/responsibilities to the Management team, Board, and stakeholders of IHOH, as required.

Requirements



Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in a related field or relevant experience. (Related fields include: Education, Social Justice, Social Work/Social Service Work) Minimum of 2 years experience and a proven record of success in outreach, education, and networking. Skilled at networking, promotion, and presentation work with various audiences at all levels of an organization. Exemplary communication and interpersonal skills. Keen ability and interest in working with and for diverse populations. Experience working in a politically sensitive environment. Fully literate in Microsoft Office Suite and other report-writing programs. Comfortable with learning new technology- an understanding of website development and effective social media campaigns would be an asset. Resourceful, motivated and energetic. Ability to lift up to 35 lbs for various tasks. Valid driver's license and access to an insured, road worthy vehicle or alternate ability to meet travel requirements. There is an expectation that this role will require significant travel throughout the province of Ontario, including overnight travel. Valid First Aid/CPR, WHIMIS, Bill 168, AODA, Occupational Health and Safety training. Original copy of Police Criminal Record Check for Vulnerable Sector clearance and ability to meet the requirements of the vulnerable sector standards for employment by IHOH. Able to meet the IHOH COVID-19 vaccination policy requirements.at Interval House of Hamilton
Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 5 months

Pay: $31.98 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
