Position Summary



The Educator provides safe, nurturing, and culturally supportive care for children enrolled in the Cheam First Nation Daycare. This role is responsible for promoting early childhood development, supporting school readiness, and ensuring that cultural values and teachings are integrated into daily programming.

Duties and Responsibilities



Provide daily supervision and care for children in accordance with licensing standards and Cheam First Nation policies. Plan and implement age-appropriate activities that support physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and cultural development. Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment. Carry out additional responsibilities as required to meet community and organizational needs. Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children at all times. Follow established protocols for emergency response, first aid, and incident reporting. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment in compliance with health and safety regulations. Incorporate Cheam First Nation language, traditions, and cultural practices into programming. Oversee groceries, meal planning, and meal preparation to ensure children receive healthy, balanced meals and snacks Work with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members to deliver culturally grounded activities. Build positive relationships with parents, guardians, and families. Communicate regularly regarding children's progress, needs, and achievements. Participate in community events and activities related to child and family well-being Assist with maintaining accurate attendance, health, and progress records.

Required Qualifications



Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate or equivalent experience, or willingness to obtain certification. Current First Aid/CPR certification. Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening. Previous experience working in a daycare, early learning, or child development setting. Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, values, and traditions; familiarity with Sto:l?/Coast Salish teachings is an asset. Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills. Ability to work with sensitivity, patience, and respect in a diverse environment.

Conditions of Work



This position involves regular interaction with children aged 0-5 in both indoor and outdoor settings. Some lifting, bending, and active play required. Occasional evening or weekend work may be requested for community or cultural events
