General Description





The Educational Specialist will provide expertise in curriculum development, assessment tools, and training workshops, supporting a program office with the implementation of an initiative. This role involves liaising with the program office and residency programs, coordinating activities related to the framework, and supporting various committees and working groups. Key responsibilities include designing curriculum initiatives, teaching methods, and assessment tools, in collaboration with program leadership and faculty, while contributing to the ongoing evaluation and innovation in curriculum research and delivery.

Project Description




The INSPIRE Office of Flexible Learning is seeking a creative, entrepreneurial, and self-driven individual to lead a flexible learning project advancing infrastructure to support McMaster's ability to develop and deliver microcredential offerings. This work will require the ability to move forward short-term priorities towards the creation of a microcredentials hub that include piloting a microcredential management system, developing financial models for microcredentials, designing a microcredential incubator program, and identifying external opportunities for partnerships and resources. It will also involve developing a long-term vision for microcredentials at McMaster to be developed through broad consultation with Faculties, the School of Graduate Studies, McMaster Continuing Education, and other central units. Experience with microcredential development and administration, leading systems change initiatives, and pan institutional or multisectoral relationship and partnership building are sought after characteristics of this educational specialist role.



Duties & Responsibilities



Provides expertise, feedback and advice on strategies related to curriculum development, implementation, instructional methods, educational materials, and assessment strategies. Works in collaboration with and supports faculty and administrative leaders, program administrators and core partners to optimize the delivery of educational strategies to achieve desired outcomes and learning objectives. Co chairs committees to ensure goals and implementation alignment with the broader vision and strategic direction of external partners. Responsible for the implementation of committee decisions and to ensure goals and targets are achievable and are in alignment with programs strategies and activities. Creates resources and tools (informative and technological) aimed at building the capacity of faculty, staff, and learners engaged in educational changes. Creates, identifies, and disseminates best practices, changes in educational priorities, and the effective use of resources. Administers evaluation activities to ensure the success of implementation initiatives, quality teaching and learning experiences, and identification of continuous quality improvement initiatives. Develops a schedule of activities that supports educational implementation and evaluation and executes the plan of action associated with improvement strategies. Participates in the development and implementation of both short and long-term plans to ensure the effective and efficient use of all program related resources. Using theory driven evaluation methods, determines and implements revisions as part of ongoing quality improvement. Performs basic analyses using statistical software and interprets results and report findings. Fosters an environment of collaboration where best practices are identified and shared across all programs.

o Develop, evaluate, and review academic and scholarly work, programs, events, and resources (i.e. literature reviews, creating abstracts, presentations at conferences.). o Administers the selection processes to fill vacancies on committees.

Writes and distributes communications, documents, and correspondence (formal and informal) across various platforms, including websites, e-newsletters, email blasts, and webinars. Creates, formats, edits, and proofreads documents and educational materials (i.e. briefing materials, educational tools, reports, etc.). Attends and participates in committee meetings with central office and core partner organizations and engages in national meetings as required. Creates and implements surveys, focus groups and other methodologies for program evaluation and quality improvement purposes. Analyze and synthesize information, conducts data analysis and updates databases to prepare reports that support program evaluation and quality improvement, while reporting findings and recommending strategies for program enhancement to decision-makers. Participates in the development, evaluation, and review of academic and scholarly programs, events, and resources. Documents all continuous quality improvement related activities to track progress and development. Plans, coordinates and manages all administrative functions related to the operation of the initiative within the program's office. Answers questions, directs resources, supports program cohorts as they navigate program changes driven by external partners (i.e. changes to curriculum and or program requirements) Plans and coordinate and deliver events and activities such as retreats, and workshops. Proposes program budget for review and approval. Provides faculty, staff, and learners information regarding program policies and procedures and program requirements. Evaluates and incorporate educational technology options that optimizes faculty and residents learning and enhances engagement at various sites. Creates, implement and ensures educational activities , resources and strategies meet CBME accreditation standards. Liaises with teams to co-create and deliver activities and collaborate on a regular basis with the Associate Dean, CBME Faculty Lead, Program Directors, other faculty members, and residents, to ensure appropriate topics are covered within planned sessions/events. Create and deliver group workshops, seminars, classes, courses, as well as educational and preparation sessions. Conducts periodic scans of post-secondary educational institutions worldwide to ensure services reflect current best practices and meet or exceed industry benchmarks and maintain a literature and bibliographic database for internal retrieval and external requests. Tracks and monitor program participation rates. Collaborates with the Student Information System team to identify and coordinate changes that align with program needs.
